Tennis Court Murals: Students will Create Two Murals to Bring a Positive Message to CCBC!
The CCBC Art Club and Black Student Union (BSU) are organizing the paintings and designs of two murals located at the tennis court on the Essex campus. The murals are planned to be painted sometime during the spring. The BSU initially came up with the idea to create the murals and met with the Art Club, which then agreed to organize the event. The BSU and Art Club collaborated on the theme which is a quote by Mahatma Gandhi, "Be the change you want to see in the world." The theme was left open because the idea was to let the students' creativity flow and get different interpretations for the designs. The purpose for the murals is related to diversity and incorporate ideas like, "CCBC: A brighter future, healing social rifts, and overcoming stigma."
"This is a great opportunity to see someone's work," professor and Art Club coordinator Jessica Walton said. "It will brighten up the campus and will also bring a positive experience for those involved." The design can be whatever the student wants, even abstract, but is meant to be relatively simple.
The Art Club and BSU will select the two designs for the murals. The murals, to be located at the old basketball court, the current campus tennis court, are to be painted by the Art Club members on a 3 x 10 foot ratio space. If you have questions or would like to participate, please contact Jessica Walton at jwalton2@ccbcmd.edu or 443-840-1567. And all are invited to check out the Art Club! The club meets every Monday at 12:30 p.m. next to the sculpture room at Essex E-226. ALL ARE WELCOME WITH OR WITHOUT DESIGNS!
