External Diploma Program (EDP)
The External Diploma Program is another choice for an adult eighteen years or older to earn a high school diploma. It is designed for adults who are competent in basic reading and math, self-directed and mature, interested in confidentiality, practical and highly skilled, concerned with flexibility because of job and family commitments, and possibly uncomfortable with timed testing. The program requires the demonstration of sixty-five generalized skills and one vocational skill in order to earn a Maryland State high school diploma. The External Diploma Program is located on the CCBC Essex Campus and the CCBC Catonsville Campus. To make an appointment, call 443-840-1284.
National External High School Diploma Program (EDP)
This is a Maryland State approved method to earn a high school diploma. To qualify, you must be age 18 or older and demonstrate high-school level skills through a prescreening process. Since many adults have acquired and/or enhanced their high-school level abilities through work, family, and community experiences, this program allows adults to demonstrate their skills by applying their life experiences in real-life situations. Participants work toward their Maryland State high school diplomas by demonstrating reading, writing, speaking, mathematics, problem-solving, and critical thinking academic skills through the performance of real-life tasks.
Because this program was designed especially for adults, it is:
Conducted weekly through one-on-one appointments with trained assessors
A combination of take home assignments with written and oral assessments at center locations.
Locations: CCBC Catonsville and CCBC Essex
‡ You must pre-register to attend an information session by calling 443-840-1284.
Information/Prescreening Sessions are by appointment only. For more information and/or to schedule an appointment, call 443-840-1284.
