GENERAL EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT (GED) CLASSES:

The following courses are designed to assist students who are preparing to take the actual GED® test upon completion of each class. There four subject areas of the 2014 GED® test -- Math (including Algebra and Geometry), Reasoning through Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. Tests can be taken individually and are computer-based. A minimum score must be achieved on each test in order to earn a Maryland High School Diploma. Information pertaining to the GED® Test can be found at www.GED.com.

The following courses will be offered at various CCBC campuses and extension centers each semester. Courses will meet for 6 week sessions (36 hours). To register and in order to determine eligibility for placement, students must attend an Essential Skills Registration session.

Cost: $40.00 per session ($0 tuition; $40 fee)
Textbook is not included. One textbook will cover all GED-level courses.

GED MATH Part I
This course is designed to enable the student to learn specific math concepts required to pass the 2014 General Educational Development (GED®) Test. This class is Part I of GED Math preparation. This course will prepare students to successfully answer technology-enhanced items including manipulating the online calculator. Topics to be covered include data analysis and measurement, algebra, functions, patterns, and geometry.
Cost: $40.00

GED MATH Part II
This course is designed to enable the student to learn specific math concepts required to pass the 2014 General Educational Development (GED®) Test. This class is Part II of GED Math preparation. Topics to be covered include complex measurement, algebra, functions, patterns, geometry, complex equations, plotting data, use of online calculator, symbol insertion, and work problems. Successful completion of GED Math Part I is a pre-requisite.
Cost: $40.00

GED SOCIAL STUDIES
This course is designed to enable the student to learn specific social studies concepts required to pass the 2014 General Educational Development (GED®) Test. Topics to be covered include the development of modern liberties and democracy, societal systems, and key historical documents.
Cost: $40.00

GED SCIENCE
This course is designed to enable the student to learn specific SCIENCE concepts required to pass the 2014 General Educational Development (GED®) Test. Topics to be covered include earth and space, physical, and life sciences.
Cost: $40.00

GED REASONING THROUGH LANGUAGE ARTS
This course is designed to enable the student to learn specific language arts concepts required to pass the 2014 General Educational Development (GED®) Test. Topics to be covered include how to read closely, write clearly, and edit and understand the use of standard written English context.
Cost: $40.00

Maryland i-Pathways (Online GED-Level instruction)

Maryland i-Pathways is a free, teacher-supported online learning environment for GED® test preparation. You must be a Maryland resident, be at least 16 years of age, and be officially withdrawn from high school. Eligibility is based on assessment in both reading and math. Applicants must exhibit minimum 9th grade skill levels in order to be enrolled. To obtain additional information and/or to apply, visit www.mdadultedonline.org. Click "Apply Now" at the right side of the home page. Complete steps 1, 2 and 3. Step 3 is the application. Complete the application and select the Community College of Baltimore County as your testing center. Cost: No Tuition (*Grant Funded)

Review of Math Skills

This class will provide students who possess a high school diploma instruction that will increase skills in whole number place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division needed for job entry-level exams and/or preparation for college entrance assessments. Each class is 30 hours of instruction.
Cost: $85 (Tuition: $60 Fees: $25)

Student Support Services
The Student Support Services office assists students with achieving their goals.
