The power of political engagement
Set in the Jim Crow south, The Secret Lives of Bees, exposes Rosaleen Daise’s attempts to engage with the political process but is met with racial violence. This presentation explores how the everyday person ends up shaping real political decisions. In this talk, Deli Okafor shares how CCBC became her springboard into public service, campaigning and local government—and why local political engagement is one of the most powerful tools students have right now.
Deli Okafor is a passionate public servant with experience in both local and state government. A proud Baltimore native and Nigerian-American, she has been recognized by The Daily Record as one of Maryland’s Leading Women Under 40 and by the Baltimore County Democratic Party as a Top Democrat. Deli is a proud alumna of CCBC Essex and the University of Baltimore and is committed to encouraging the next generation to step forward, take action and make a difference.
