Veteran Support Programs

Support at every step.

Whether you're looking for resources or just need someone to talk to, Veterans Services offers a variety of mentorships, workshops, events and programs to support our military student community.

Transitioning to college

Returning to school after military service can be a big change—but you're not alone. CCBC offers programs designed to help you adjust to college life, earn credit for your military experience, build confidence and stay on track from day one.

Turn your service into college credit.

This option is ideal for military students who have college-level experience with aviation, business, criminal justice and transportation, among many other military-related fields.

Our faculty typically evaluate course credit using Joint Services Transcripts (JST), Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) transcripts, American Council on Education (ACE) recommendations, and occupational exhibits.

Get started
  1. Apply to CCBC and select a program of study. If you have since changed your program of study, be sure to update your student record
  2. Submit official documentation of all prior learning including college and/or military transcripts to the Registrar's Office. View JST submission instructions.
  3. Complete our Transfer Evaluation form. If your exam has a CCBC course equivalency that is required for your program, we will apply those credits toward your degree. This process takes a few weeks.

Please note: If you are notified (via student email address) that we did not find an equivalency and you think this is a mistake, please contact us at priorlearning@ccbcmd.edu.

Jumpstart your college journey with a free prep course.

The Warrior-Scholar Project (WSP) is a non-profit organization that offers a free, week-long intensive college-prep course to help you transition from military to college. This course does not take place at CCBC, but as a CCBC student, we can help you find a participating university and enroll as a guest. Courses typically run during the summer.

If you're ready to get started, submit a completed CCBC FERPA Form to veteranservices@ccbcmd.edu, then apply through the Warrior-Scholar Project.

Get connected to mental health and academic support.

The Veterans Integration to Academic Leadership (VITAL) program is a partnership between the VA Maryland Health Care System and CCBC. Through VITAL, you have an on-campus advocate for your mental well-being and education.

What you can expect with VITAL:

  • Individual and group mental health services to address readjustment, stress, anger, depression, anxiety and sleep problems.
  • Couples and family counseling.
  • Assistance with getting disability services (e.g. hearing devices) and academic accommodations (e.g. testing accommodations).
  • Assistance with enrollment and care at the VA Maryland Health Care System.
  • Connection to VA health care and Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) and Vocational Rehabilitation services.
  • Connection to community resources for veterans.
  • Support with college processes regarding academic actions and/or conduct issues.

To take advantage of VITAL, contact our coordinator, Dr. Daniel Koster (Daniel.Koster2@VA.gov).

After you graduate

If you're close to graduating from your program, we invite you to stay connected via the Veteran Alumni Chapter!

The CCBC Veteran Alumni Chapter serves a multitude of purposes, facilitating volunteering and community service, service to the college, CCBC student-veteran mentorship, networking with industry, recreation, education and more. The chapter also serves as a support network and community of peers.

Each year, the chapter sponsors a commencement reception, which includes distribution of challenge coins to new members. The Veteran Alumni Chapter also assists with other general CCBC Alumni Association events and initiatives throughout the year.

In order to become a member of the CCBC Veteran Alumni Chapter, you must have:

  • accumulated a minimum of 30 CCBC credit hours (not transferred), equivalent CEUs, or
  • earned a terminal degree or certificate.

The CCBC Veteran Alumni Chapter is for military veterans only. The term “veteran” applies to:

  • Active duty service members.
  • National Guard.
  • Reservists.
  • Veterans (prior service in the United States Armed Forces: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard).

There is no deadline to register and the chapter membership is free! All we ask is that you attend at least one meeting per quarter. To join the chapter, contact veteranservices@ccbcmd.edu.
