Assistant Professor,
Mass Communication

“Each student deserves the best and I try to provide that each and every day.”

Being able to relate to CCBC students is what attracted Jeremy Caplan to teach here in the first place.

“I see myself in many of my students,” Jeremy observes. “They may not have done as well as they would have liked and may not have enjoyed their prior classroom experience. They want a fresh start and a clean slate.”

Jeremy, an assistant professor of Mass Communication, is now dedicated to helping his students build their skills, confidence and enthusiasm.

“This is something I’ve always wanted to do,” says Jeremy, who also serves as the faculty advisor to the student newspaper, the CCBC Connection. “I felt drawn to education and student journalism.”

Jeremy credits CCBC for not only helping him improve his grade point average but also for discovering how to enjoy learning in the first place. He did so well his first year at CCBC that he transferred to Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo., where he majored in English. He went on to earn a master’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Colorado Boulder before seizing the opportunity to return home and pursue his passion for teaching and impacting students with similar backgrounds and aspirations.

“I really enjoy working one-on-one with students in an environment that mimics the real world,” Jeremy explains. “It’s my chance to give back to the place where I grew up.”
