Building Automation Systems, Credit Certificate
The Building Automation Systems (BAS) certificate prepares students for the highest paying entry-level position in HVAC with a Building Automation company. Course and lab work prepare them for this computer-based aspect of HVAC. This field contains integration of HVAC and networked IT systems that control all major buildings today. Students will be prepared for this high-demand and high-tech field with both computer skills and commercial HVAC knowledge.
Program objectives
Upon successful completion of this certificate, students will be able to:
- analyze commercial HVAC system design as it is used for large buildings and advanced large-scale systems;
- employ computer-aided design basics as they are used in the building automation industry for graphics at user interface level;
- summarize the use of information technology as it is employed in the network systems that support the building automation systems;
- demonstrate the use of building automation system hardware and software to control HVAC system operations and energy consumption;
- interpret construction drawings to include mechanical, electrical, and structural sets;
- install building automation systems for building electrical and mechanical systems;
- program operational sequences for building equipment and systems; and
- commission building systems and the related components to ensure effective performance and compliance with building.
