Veterinary Technology

The Veterinary Technology program allows students to become a valuable part of the veterinary health care team.

Students will learn to perform a variety of skills associated with patient care. These include patient examination, documentation, clinical laboratory procedures, imaging protocols, assisting in surgery and monitoring anesthesia, calculating and administering fluids, etc. and client education.

Graduates may expect to find employment in a variety of settings within the veterinary profession. These include general practice, emergency and critical care, specialty referral hospitals, large animal, veterinary teaching hospitals, zoo, aquarium, shelter, private and corporate industries. 
 
The Veterinary Technology program is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association’s Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities.





Veterinary Technician National Examination

The Veterinary Technology Program is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association's Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (AVMA/CVTEA). Students who successfully complete the program are eligible to take the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE). The VTNE validates competency for practice.

The VTNE and Maryland State Board Requirements must be completed prior to submitting an application request to become a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT). The designation of RVT is awarded by the Maryland State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners.
