New Dean named at the CCBC School of Health Professions

Shawn P. McNamara, Ed.D., MSN, RN has been appointed dean of Instruction for the Community College of Baltimore County School of Health Professions effective Jan. 4, 2016. He succeeds the late Dean Carol E. Eustis. Dr. McNamara is no stranger to CCBC. He has been serving as Nursing Program Administrator and Assistant Dean since 2009 and is passionate about Nursing and the opportunities that associate degree nursing provides.

As dean of Instruction in the School of Health Professions, he will oversee CCBC credit programs in Dental Hygiene, Emergency Medical Technology, Massage Therapy, Medical Laboratory Technology, Mental Health, Mortuary Science, Nursing, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physician Assistant, Radiation Therapy, Radiography, Respiratory Care Therapy and Veterinary Technology as well as a host of short-term training, licensure and certification offerings through Continuing Education.

McNamara is active in the Maryland Chapter of OADN, Maryland Association for Associate Degree Nursing Directors, the Maryland Council of Deans and Directors of Associate Degree and Baccalaureate Nursing Program, and the Maryland Nurses Association. He also serves on many boards and advisory committees for nursing education, home health, and hospice care. Currently, he is serving as a Commissioner on the Maryland Natalie M. LaPrade Medical Marijuana Commission, which is charged with developing and implementing guidelines for the use of medical marijuana in Maryland.

McNamara, a resident of Glen Rock, Pa., graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Towson, Maryland. He holds a baccalaureate degree in nursing from Towson University, a master’s in nursing education from the University of Maryland and doctorate in Education from Walden University.
