Top seven entrepreneurs from CCBC compete for seed money and the opportunity to launch their own start-ups

The Community College of Baltimore County’s Center for Business Innovation is hosting its 3rd Annual Business Plan Competition from 6 – 7:30 p.m., Saturday, February 6 at Rolling Road Golf Club, 814 Hilltop Ave, Catonsville, MD 21228.
Students and alumni will compete in the final round of the competition for seed money to help them turn their ideas into new businesses this spring. Known as the Center for Business Innovation’s annual “shark tank” round, the top seven finalists will compete for $2,000 in seed money and the opportunity to work with CCBC’s top students who will help them get their businesses off the ground. What began as a competition with 64 participants in the fall of 2015 is now down to the top seven.
The seven finalists include:
- Angela Phillips, Concierge Extraordinaire LLC, an event planner and concierge service for busy professionals.
- Cecily Roberts, I Do Too, a wedding planner for LGBT couples.
- Jaron Lewis, Suicide Fitness, a personal training and coaching service focused on both mind and body.
- Justin Whitcome, F5 Portable Mixer, a single-serving mixer designed to blend powdered supplements with liquid to create a power drink.
- Kia Burch, Nicole’s Dance Club, a non-alcohol club for those 18 and over who want to dance to Top 40 hits.
- Kyle Johnson, Wealth & Abundance, a lifestyle brand featuring unique apparel designs.
- Malika Amanova, Wish of Woman (WOW) Makeup, a mobile make-up service for special events such as weddings.
“We’re very fortunate to have Natalie Martz share her passion for entrepreneurship as the keynote speaker at this year’s Business Plan Competition,” says Dennis Sullivan, executive director of the Center for Business Innovation. “Her approach to building and growing businesses has earned her the respect of other business owners as well as the community and I’m convinced that anyone who aspires to be successful would benefit from her advice.”
The judges for this year’s competition feature an impressive line-up of entrepreneurs, executives and business leaders from the Baltimore area including:
- Linda Goldberg, HR Director at WPM Real Estate Management and CCBC Board Trustee.
- Frank van Fliet, Executive-in-Residence at the University of Baltimore’s Marketing and Entrepreneurship Department.
- James Himel, former equity partner in a $25 million start-up, and currently serves as a CCBC-Catonsville Foundation Board Member.
- Danielle Alderson, owner and operator of Chick-fil-A Eastpoint restaurant.
- Ken Westary, VP of Institutional Advancement at CCBC.
The Center for Business Innovation’s Business Plan Competition is sponsored by the Baltimore area Chick-fil-A restaurants, the CCBC Foundation, CCBC Alumni Association and the many business owners and CCBC faculty who have graciously donated their time and energy to the participants of the competition.
