Participating in the 2020 census helps your community

Apr 03, 2020

Census 2020 time is now! By participating in this important effort, you will play a vital part in shaping the future for yourself, your family and your community for the next decade.

Every 10 years, as mandated by the U.S. Constitution, a nationwide census is conducted to count every person living in the United States and five U.S. territories. The results of this count determining your community’s representation in Congress, as well as the amount of federal funding allocated to programs like subsidized school lunches and support for teachers, infrastructure projects like highway maintenance and public transit, human service programs like those that address issues like domestic violence and elder care, and health care initiatives such as Medicare and substance abuse treatment programs.

It’s also important for educational institutions like CCBC. Census results help the college better understand the communities and individuals we serve, and also affect the amount of funding CCBC receives to support vital educational and student support programs.

It takes just 10 minutes to answer 10 questions that will affect you and your community for 10 years. Visit 2020census.gov to learn more and participate.
