(Nov. 10, 2015) — Victory Media, originator of Military Friendly® education and career resources for veterans and their families, has named the Community College of Baltimore County to its 2016 list of Military Friendly® schools.
According to their press release, “Institutions of higher learning competed for the title by completing an extensive survey covering ten indicators of success, including: Support for student veterans on campus, graduation and employment outcomes, and military spouse policies.
Survey responses were scored against benchmarks, with results independently tested by EY (Ernst &Young) based upon the weightings and methodology established by Victory Media and its independent Advisory Board.”
To make the most of their education, 750 military-affiliated students currently utilize veterans' educational benefits and rely upon dedicated CCBC certifying officials who provide one-on-one assistance and counseling. In addition, CCBC shows continued commitment to strengthening its veteran services as outlined in the Maryland Campus Compact for Student Veterans and the White House's Principles of Excellence for military education with the addition of the Veterans Integration to Academic Leadership (VITAL) initiative, as well as by hiring the new Director of Veteran Services to provide leadership for an integrated veteran services model.
CCBC provides Veterans Lounges on each of its main campuses to encourage veterans to interact with other veterans on the campus. The college is also initiating a Veterans Ambassador program where students will be recruited to connect students who are veterans to CCBC services and resources. A Veteran Mentorship program is also in the works which will help student veterans combine their military experience with classroom knowledge and match them with successful and experienced mentors from top Fortune 500 companies.
