Cockpit in Court Summer Theatre presents Disney’s The Lion King, Jr. at CCBC Essex, July 6 -15

Baltimore County, MDCockpit in Court Summer Theatre, in residence at CCBC Essex, will perform Disney’s The Lion King, Jr. from July 6 through July 15. All performances will be held at the Administration Building Lecture Hall on the Essex campus, 7201 Rossville Boulevard.

The African savannah comes to life on stage in Disney’s inspiring, coming-of-age tale full of life’s most important lessons. The familiar and family-friendly Disney story revolves around the life and adventures of Simba, a young lion, and his loving relationship with his father and leader of the pack, Mufasa. Conflict ensues when Simba's wicked uncle, Scar, plots to take Mufasa's throne by luring him and Simba into a wildebeest stampede. However, when Simba escapes and his father is killed, he later returns as an adult to claim his homeland from Scar with the help of his friends. The Lion King, Jr. demonstrates the strength and bond of family. The story is told with care, includes fun and memorable songs and is a delight for people of all ages.

  • July 7 & 8 at 1 p.m.
  • July 10, 11 & 12 at 11 a.m.
  • July 13 at 7 p.m.
  • July 14, 15 at 1 p.m.
  • July 14 at 4 p.m.
The Cockpit in Court cast of 39 actors will be directed by Liz Boyer Hunnicutt. The principal cast includes Evelyn Acerno as Young Simba; Ethan Holler as Simba; Zachary Byrd as Musafa; Dylan Morrison as Scar; Serenity Holmes as Rafiki; Amy Claudio as Young Nala; Bella Comotto as Timon; and Jacqueline Hicks as Pumbaa.

Tickets are $10 for all seats and are available from the CCBC Box Office at 443-840-ARTS (2787) or online at A group rate of $8 per ticket is available for parties of eight people or more.

The music and lyrics of The Lion King, Jr. are by Elton John and Tim Rice, with additional music and lyrics by Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, and Hans Zimmer. The book was written by Roger Allers and Irene Mecchi. This production is based on the Broadway show directed by Julie Taymor.
