Baltimore County, Md. – The Government Finance Officers Association recently awarded the Community College of Baltimore County with a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year ended 2019. This certificate is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

“We are incredibly honored to have earned this recognition from the Government Finance Officers Association for 22 consecutive years,” said CCBC President Sandra Kurtinitis. “We take great pride in our financial responsibilities and understand the importance of being good stewards of public funding so that we can most effectively serve our student population and our community.”

According to the GFOA, the association established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program (CAFR Program) in 1945. Its purpose is to recognize individual governments that go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure.

Reports submitted to the CAFR Program have been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a major professional association servicing the needs of more than 20,000 appointed and elected local, state, and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners.
