CCBC welcomes professional drag racers
Aimed at highlighting the successful career one can have in the automotive industry, the initiative works to strengthen partnerships between CCBC’s Automotive program, the statewide high school Automotive program, and local Fiat Chrysler Automobile dealers.
“It’s important that students see varied career paths that exist in the automotive industry,” said Greg Weller, CCBC Automotive Technology instructor and coordinator of the Assemble Your Future initiative. “Whether they are looking for careers at local car dealerships or are drawn to the excitement of the drag racing industry, there is a demand for quality technicians. These are not just jobs; they are lucrative careers.”
Efforts reduce waste, increase sustainability
Sustainability initiatives continue to be implemented across all CCBC campuses, with the goal of reducing CCBC’s landfill waste by 40 percent in five years (FY 2024).Three major initiatives comprise this year’s plan:
- Composting restroom paper towel waste is expected to make a positive impact for area landfills. Use of the composted material benefits campus gardens as well.
- A recycling awareness campaign aims to reduce the contamination of food waste and non-recyclables in campus recycling bins.
- Using fewer single-use plastics is critically important to the Chesapeake Bay watershed, so CCBC cafes have eliminated polystyrene plates, cups and containers, and have replaced plastic food service utensils and containers with renewable alternatives.
