Family Literacy ESOL

Learn together.

Family ESOL classes classes help parents learn English language skills for life, work and to fully partner in their children’s education. To participate in this program, parents must have a child (0-16 years old) enrolled in Baltimore County Public Schools or the Judy Center of Baltimore County.

These classes are tuition-free through support from the Maryland Department of Labor, but students will need to purchase the accompanying workbook. Unfortunately, students with an F-1 or J-1 Visa are not eligible for Maryland Department of Labor grant-funded classes.

Classes are offered in-person and online via Zoom. All students need a smartphone. For online Zoom classes, students must have a computer with a camera and microphone, and unlimited internet access.

Registration

Our Family Literacy ESOL Adult classes are designed to help parents or primary care givers learn English Language skills for life, work and fully partner in their child’s education. Registration is easy and held in-person.

To register, simply attend one of our upcoming registration placement sessions listed below.

Important notes:

  • Registration is on a first come, first served basis. Registration takes up to 3 hours and is limited to a certain number of students.
  • Students must be at least 18 years of age, not enrolled or planning to attend high school.
  • Only students who are registering are allowed in the registration area. Friends and family members must wait in a different area.
  • New students will take a test to determine placement. Returning students may not need to take the placement test. Just bring your referral form or the certificate from the previous semester with you to registration.
  • You will receive information about the class schedule when you register.
  • If CCBC is closed, ESOL registration sessions will also be canceled that day.

At the Community College of Baltimore County, we strive to create a welcoming environment for all of our students. If you require an accommodation for a disability, please email jwalsh@ccbcmd.edu or call us at 443.840.3428.
