Basic boating certification

Meet the certification requirements of the MD Department of Natural Resources Police with classroom instruction in basic boating.

Maryland Basic Boating Certification 
Learn about different types of vessels, navigational aids, marine weather, regulations, emergency situations, personal watercraft, and maneuvering. Maryland requires that all motorboat operators born after July 1, 1972 pass a certified boating course. Meet these certification requirements through our classroom instruction in basic boating.

Fishing

Get the most out of your fishing experience with techniques, tricks and strategies the experts use to locate and catch striped bass (rockfish) and other saltwater species.

Outdoor activities

Find the best ways to enjoy the beautiful nature of our area. Get fit while enjoying it with courses that show you the best way to hike or bike our many Maryland trails. If you are more of a sports enthusiast, you can get the most out of your love for golf, tennis, racquetball, running, football and fencing.

U.S. Coast Guard Captain's licensing course

Prepare for the U.S. Coast Guard Captain's License test (masters level). This comprehensive review covers all aspects of the commercial operation of Coast Guard-inspected passenger carrying vessels. Topics include rules of the road, deck general and safety, chart reading, plotting, T-Boat regulations, watch-keeping, trim and stability, and ship construction. (Testing done on campus.) 

The course takes about 100 hours of instruction and testing. It is usually offered in evening and weekend classes. 

License holders are eligible to operate all types of vessels for hire including fishing charters, water taxis, and vessel deliveries.

SCUBA diving

This certification prep course teaches the physics, physiology and procedures associated with modern-day diving using classroom lecture and pool exercises.
