Automotive Courses

Maryland Safety Inspection Classes

Maryland Safety Inspectors work in an automotive repair or service outlet. They inspect and monitor transportation equipment, vehicles or systems to ensure compliance with state regulations and safety standards.

CCBC offers two classes to help experienced automotive technicians prepare for Maryland’s written and hands-on safety inspection exams. These classes are not required for the exam, but are offered to help technicians prepare.

Preparation for MD State Safety Inspection Written Test

Prepare for state certification as a Maryland Safety inspector in this lecture class. Automotive technicians seeking certification will review the applicable Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) and test taking strategies. Topics include handbook review, updates and revisions and administrative responsibilities of an inspector. Students are required to do extensive study outside of class in order to fully prepare for the certification test. Test results are not guaranteed.

Maryland State Inspection Hands-On Test Preparation

This course is designed for the student who has passed the Maryland State inspection written exam. This two-day course will prepare the student with the skills needed to succeed on the hands on test. Topics to be covered include scuff gauge, front end alignment, exhaust emissions, lighting circuits, headlight alignments, conversion formulas, micrometer usage, dial indicator, and dial caliper.

ASE A 8 Engine Performance and L1 Advanced Engine Performance Test Preparation

This course is designed to enable the professional automotive technician to learn the automotive diagnostic procedures and tasks needed to take the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) A8 Engine Performance Test and The L1 Advanced Engine Performance Test to become ASE certified.

Diesel Technology

Introduction to Diesel Mechanics

Prepare for an entry level job as a diesel mechanic / technician. Diesel mechanics repair and maintain diesel engines in trucks, marine engines, power plants and other heavy equipment using diesel power. Training is done in a working repair shop with significant hands on training to supplement the classroom lectures. The course covers all the basic systems of a diesel engine, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnostics, record keeping, safety, use of specialized tools and shop procedures.
