Services and Accommodations for Students and Employees with Disabilities

THE COLLEGE'S COMMITMENT TO ACCESS

The Community College of Baltimore County does not discriminate with regard to religion, race, color, sex, age or disability.

The Community College of Baltimore County is committed to the philosophy of non-discrimination for individuals with disabilities and ensures that all programs and activities of the College are in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. To ensure compliance with these laws, the College has established the Office of Institutional Equity and each campus has an office designated to provide reasonable accommodations and support services. These offices work closely with all college departments and support functions to provide creative and reasonable solutions to problems faced by individuals with disabilities.

CCBC is committed to affording students reasonable accommodations for disabilities defined by the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Listed below are examples of disabilities and the reasonable accommodations that may be available for such disabilities.

EXAMPLES OF TYPES OF DISABILITIES SUPPORTED

Support is provided for individuals with deafness and hearing disabilities, blindness and low vision, health impairments, learning disabilities, attention deficit disorders, orthopedic impairments, psychiatric disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, as well as multiple disabilities and other disabilities as defined by the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

EXAMPLES OF ACCOMMODATIONS AND SERVICES AVAILABLE

The following accommodations and services are available to individuals with disabilities, based upon documentation of need. Arrangements for these accommodations are coordinated on each campus and individuals are expected to follow the procedures set by the College in order to request these accommodations and services.

  • Academic advising and registration assistance
  • Accessibility information and accessible classroom furniture
  • Alternative placement and classroom test taking arrangements
  • Assistive technology and adaptive equipment
  • Braille, taped or enlarged print materials
  • Career planning assistance
  • Counseling and referral to college support services
  • C-print captioning
  • Liaison and referral to outside agencies
  • Note takers, readers
  • Sign language interpreters
  • Tuition waiver information
  • Assistance in completing the CCBC employment application and during the employee hiring process
  • Appropriate workplace accommodations
  • Community access accommodations for public events and programs hosted by the College

THE ACCOMMODATION PROCESS

Those requesting reasonable accommodations should identify themselves to the appropriate office as given in this guide. They will meet with a staff member to request and make arrangements for reasonable accommodations, based upon the documentation that they will be asked to submit. Interested persons are encouraged to begin this process as soon as possible to allow for accommodations to be arranged in a timely manner.
