2008 GAME RECAPS

Tuesday, September 9, 2008 vs College of Southern Maryland (W 2-0)

CCBC Catonsville won its home opener with a 2-0 shutout over the College of Southern Maryland. Freshman Asia Woodside scored her first college goals with two late in first half. In the 38th minute, Woodside received a pass from sophmore Erin LaBella. Woodside carried the ball into the box and slotted a low hard shot for the first score of the match. Three minutes later, freshman Amy Muse found Woodside with a superb feed. Woodside controlled the pass, turned, and scored to put the Lady Cardinals up 2-0 at the half. The College of Southern Maryland played the Cardinals tough in the second half and had several scoring opportunities, but were unable to convert. Freshman goalkeeper Lacey Bevilacqua posted her second shut-out of the season.

Saturday, September 13, 2008 vs CC of Rhode Island (L 5-3)

CCBC Catonsville suffered a 5-3 loss to fifth ranked CC of Rhode Island. It was the first loss of the 2008 campaign. The Lady Cardinals scored first within five minutes of the opening whistle. Freshman Asia Woodside sent in a bending far post shot that slipped past the Lady Knights keeper. Approximately five minutes later on a corner kick, sophomore Jennah Kilroy sent in a high cross to sophomore Erin LaBella to put the Lady Cardinals up 2-0.
The Lady Knights then tallied five unanswered goals capitalizing on mistakes by the Cardinal's defense. In the 22nd minute, CCRI's Alexis Smith pounded a powerful shot to put the first goal on the board for the Knights. Two minutes later, Smith attacks the Cardinals defense, wins the ball off the sweeper and slots the ball low for the Knights second goal. In the 30th minute, the Knights earn a corner kick. Stephanie Morse jumped high above the Cardinals to put the Knights in the lead, 3-2. Two minutes later, the Knights Kaela-Rose Gentile takes advantage of a miss-played ball by the Cardinals defense and records the goal. Rounding out the scoring, Smith follows the shot of a teammate and pokes in the final goal to end the half at 5-2.
The Cardinals made some adjustments during half-time and came out attacking in the second period. In the 72nd minute, sophomore Morgan Vandenberge carries the ball toward the Knight goal and sends in a cross which the Knight keeper tips. Freshman Katherine Witowski, handles the rebound on the back post for the only goal in the second half.

Wednesday, September 17, 2008 vs Howard (L 1-0)

Allie Novak's goal with 18 minutes remaining in the first half gave Howard Community College a 1-0 win over visiting CCBC Catonsville. Despite out-shooting the Dragons 13-8, the Lady Cardinals could not convert any shots and suffered its first loss in the Maryland JuCo Conference. Netminder Lacey Bevilacqua posted seven saves.

Monday, September 29, 2008 vs Potomac State (W 4-0)

Freshman goalkeeper Lacey Bevilacqua earned her fifth shutout of the season as CCBC Catonsville beat visiting Potomac State (WV) 4-0.
In the 15th minute, the Cardinals earned a corner as sophomore Jennah Kilroy sent in a lofted ball to the six which freshman Emily Reese fought for and headed low to put the Lady Cardinals up 1-0. Fifteen minutes later, the Cardinals once again connected with the net on a set play with the Kilroy-Reese duo. Kilroy again sent in a corner kick which bounced in the box and Reese chased downed, turned, and volleyed into the net just past the Potomac State keeper. With ten minutes left in the half, freshman Asia Woodside challenged the keeper on a bouncing shot and, unfortunately, found herself on the receiving end of a double yellow. The Lady Cardinals had to play the rest of the game with just ten players on the field.
Nevertheless, the Cardinals' domination continued in the second half. In the 62nd minute, Freshman Katherine Witowski delivered a cross which bobbled around the box and was parried out by the Potomac keeper, but found a crashing Kilroy on the far post who stuck a low hard shot for the third Cardinal goal. Nine minutes later, freshman Kara Cashen attacked wide through the Potomac defense and sent in a cross which again bobbled around the box and found Kilroy for her second goal of the game.
The Cardinals outshot Potomac State 11 to 3.

Wednesday, October 1, 2008 vs Montgomery-Rockville (L 1-0)

Julia Bethge's lone goal gave top ranked (MD JuCo) Montgomery College-Rockville a 1-0 win over visiting CCBC Catonsville.
The Lady Cardinals held MC Rockville scoreless in the first half despite outshooting the Knights, eight to six. In the second half, near the 60th minute, Rockville attacked. On a soft clear from the Cardinal defense, Rockville outside midfielder Julia Bethge ran onto the ball and struck a low hard shot for the game's only score.

Tuesday, October 14, 2008 vs CCBC Essex (W 2-1)

CCBC Catonsville picked up its fourth win of the season with a 2-1 road victory over rival CCBC Essex. Essex struck first in the 14th minute when Rosalyh Pallanck charged on a lazy ball in the box and poked it just past CCBC Catonsville keeper, Lacey Bevilacqua, to give the Knights the early lead. Seven minutes later, CCBC Catonsville struck back as sophomore Morgan Vandenberge finds Tiffany Youse for a goal to tie the game and send the teams into the half. In the 65th minute, freshman Amy Muse dribbles through two Essex defenders and slots the ball to freshman Asia Woodside. Woodside takes the ball down the line, cuts it in, and slots it across the six yard box to a well timed run from Youse. Youse finishes and secures the win for the Lady Cardinals.
