Introduction to Physical Geography
Examines the physical elements of geography, including the Earth in its orbit, the nature and distribution of landforms, the elements of weather and climate, soils, vegetation, the Earth's shape, plate tectonics, landscape building and erosion.
Prerequisites: ENGL 052 or ESOL 052; RDNG 052 or ESOL 054; and MATH 081

Introduction to Cultural Geography
Studies the distribution of cultures which have evolved through time in particular regions of the world; traces the development of geographical landscapes and culture groups from an evolutionary viewpoint.
Prerequisite: RDNG 052 or ESOL 054

World Regional Geography
Examines the growth of the global political geography and the interactions among various countries and regions of the world.

Studies the physical and cultural environments in Maryland and their effect on the population, both historically and currently, through a survey emphasizing topography, climate, economy, and social characteristics of the state.

Geography of the United States and Canada
Studies the physical and cultural characteristics of the United States and Canada and covers the physical and climactic regions; population; agricultural, minerals, forests, and water resources; and manufacturing and trade patterns.
Prerequisites: ENGL 052 and RDNG 052 or ESOL 054
GEOG 141 – 3 Credits
Introduction to Oceanography
Introduces students to the physical, chemical, biological, and geological aspects of the oceans and the methods and techniques of research. NOTE: Same as ERSC 141. Credit can be earned for one course only.
Prerequisites: RDNG 052 or ESOL 054 and MATH 082
GEOG 142 – 1 Credit
Oceanography Laboratory
Gives students experience in working with oceanographic data and techniques; discusses determination of chemical and physical properties of seawater, investigations of biological communities, and examination of coastal and shoreline features. NOTE: Same as GEOG 142. Credit can be earned for one course only.
Prerequisite: ERSC 141 (concurrent or previous)

GIS Applications
Surveys the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) discipline and studies applications of GIS in the fields of marketing, environmental management, and governmental planning; laboratory component introduces procedures to capture, analyze, and display spatially linked data. 2 lecture hours and 3 laboratory hours per week.
