Program Description:

The Health and Fitness Studies program prepares students for a professional career as either a personal trainer or a fitness specialist. Students learn how to conduct physical and health risk assessments, interpret assessment results, design exercise programs, provide fitness instruction and supervise fitness facilities.

A students who successfully completes the requirements for an A.A.S. Degree in Health and Fitness Studies will be able to:

  1. Develop safe and effective individualized exercise prescriptions based on an individual's goals and health history;
  2. Demonstrate proficiency as an effective personal trainer when leading individuals and groups;
  3. Conduct various laboratory and field tests at a professional health club; and
  4. Utilize the tools of effective oral and written communication related to personal training, including public speaking skills, professional and scholarly report preparation, and computer literacy.
