Program Description:
Histotechnicians assist pathologists, physicians, and scientists in preparing tissues for microscopic examination. This program prepares graduates in the essential skills, techniques, and specialized competencies required for successful employment as a histologic technician.
The Histotechnician program at Harford Community College is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences. Graduates are eligible to take the national certification examination given by the American Society of Clinical Pathology.
This program is articulated with Harford Community College. Students complete all science and general education requirements at CCBC. The clinical training component of the program will be provided on the Harford Community College campus and at various clinical sites throughout the metropolitan area. Students participating in this program will transfer credits to Harford Community College and must graduate in accordance with the accreditation requirements of the Histotechnician program. Students may apply for admission to the program and to Harford Community College online.
Admission to CCBC does not imply admission to Harford Community College or to the Histotechnology program at Harford Community College.
Admission Prerequisites:
Students are required to achieve grades of “C” or better in BIOL 220, Human Anatomy & Physiology I; BIOL 221, Human Anatomy & Physiology II, CHEM 121/122 General Chemistry I lecture and lab; and CHEM 123/124, General Chemistry II lecture & lab and an overall minimum GPA of 2.0 for all college courses completed.
CCBC School of Health Professions Policies: Students in the School of Health Professions are expected to conduct themselves according to an honor code, exhibit professional behavior, communicate effectively in English, provide proof of health insurance and immunizations, and participate in a criminal background check. They may be asked to submit to random urine drug testing at clinical sites.
