2008 CCBC College Catalog
Honors for High Achievement
Dean’s list
At the end of each academic term, the Dean’s
list is published to recognize those students who have achieved
outstanding academic success. To qualify, a student must have earned a
GPA of at least 3.5 over a minimum of the last twelve (12) credits
attempted since the last review, and not have a D or F during that term.
Graduation with honors
Students who qualify for the associate
degree and have a GPA of 3.40 to 3.59 will be graduated cum laude; and
those from 3.60 to 3.79 will be graduated magna cum laude; those from
3.80 to 4.00 will be graduated summa cum laude.
Honors program
The Honors program is
intended to promote academic excellence in students who are both
intellectually gifted and highly motivated. Students are encouraged to
think analytically and creatively and are taught to communicate their
thoughts effectively in both oral and written projects.
Honors courses are designed to:
-
Emphasize student involvement
-
Foster collaboration and inquiry
-
Require work at a more sophisticated level
-
Involve participation, exposure to new ideas, active learning and
critical thinking
Benefits for participants
Students who enroll in the Honors
program and meet minimum requirements, complete at least 15 of the 60
credit hours required for graduation, and earn an overall GPA of 3.5 or
better receive Honors certificates, are recognized for their
achievements at graduation, and often receive special treatment at
transfer institutions. In addition, Honors program participants have
access to smaller classes, special social and cultural events, faculty
mentors and scholarship eligibility.
Honors Courses
The following courses
are offered in an Honors format.
Who’s eligible
The Honors program is open to interested
students who show potential for superior academic performance. Students
may apply for the program if they already have excellent academic
records or if they have just become aware of their potential and have
the motivation to excel. Interested students should request applications
from their campus Honors program directors:
