Program Description:
In Maryland, CPA examination candidates must have satisfactorily
completed 150 semester hours, including a bachelor’s or higher degree
and 60 semester hours in accounting and related subjects. Details can be
found online at www.dllr.state.md.us/license/occprof/account.html.
In general, the CPA Fast-Track program is designed for those students
who already hold a bachelor’s or higher degree and would like to sit for
the CPA exam. To be eligible to sit for the CPA exam, candidates must
complete a combination of accounting and non-accounting courses. For
most students, the remaining courses can be completed within one year.
The student should seek advisement from the Accounting program
coordinator before enrolling. A student, enrolling in the fall semester,
may complete the necessary accounting courses to be eligible to sit for
the November CPA exam in the following year. A student, enrolling in the
spring semester, may complete the necessary accounting courses to be
eligible to sit for the May CPA exam in the following year. If
additional non-accounting courses are needed, with proper advisement and
planning, the student may still meet this time schedule in many cases.
NOTE: To sit for the November CPA exam, the student should take
ACCT 101 and 102, if needed, in the Summer session of the prior year. To
sit for the May CPA exam, the student should take ACCT 101 and 102, if
needed, in the Winter session of the prior year.
