Program Description:
The Medical
Office Assistant program is designed to prepare students for careers in
the medical office. The program seeks to provide students not only with
technical skills but also with the necessary analytical, clinical, and
conceptual skills to perform successfully in the variety of situations
found in the medical office environment.
Graduates of this program may expect to find employment as
administrative medical assistants, clinical medical assistants, medical
coders, medical transcriptionists, medical secretaries, medical record
technicians, medical billing clerks, hospital admitting clerks, and
hospital unit secretaries.
Courses may be taken in any sequence as long as course prerequisites are
met. Some courses may be offered in alternate semesters. Credit by exam
is available for selected courses.
Articulation: Baltimore County high school graduates may be eligible for
advanced placement and credit in Office Technology courses. Call the
program coordinator for more information.
Program Outcomes
Graduates of the Medical Office Assistant
program will be able to:

produce first-time mailable copy using state-of-the art software from
a variety of input media;
-
manage records and data electronically and manually;
-
combine organizational and technical skills to improve office workflow;
-
speak and write effectively for interpersonal, group, and office
communication;
-
code, bill, and transcribe medical records using industry procedures
and correct terminology; and
-
assist in administering routine medical treatment to patients in a
clinical setting and accurately document all procedures
