*A new college orientation requirement, completion of the one-credit ACDV 101 course, Transitioning to College, goes into effect spring 2010. If you are a credit student who is new to college in the spring 2010 semester (meaning you have not previously successfully completed college coursework at another institution(s)), you are required to take ACDV 101 during your first semester at CCBC, thereby increasing the number of credits required for the degree to 62 credits. PLEASE NOTE: If you are new to college and completed one or more credit courses successfully at CCBC in the fall 2009 semester, you are ENCOURAGED but NOT REQUIRED to take ACDV 101 in the spring 2010 semester.

Program Description:

The Health and Fitness Studies program prepares students for a professional career as either a personal trainer, fitness specialist or transfer student to a four-year kinesiology degree. Students learn how to conduct physical and health risk assessments, interpret assessment results, design exercise programs, provide fitness instruction and supervise fitness facilities.

A students who successfully completes the requirements for an A.A.S. Degree in Health and Fitness Studies will be able to:

  1. develop safe and effective individualized exercise prescriptions based on an individual's goals and health history;
  2. demonstrate proficiency as an effective personal trainer when leading individuals and groups;
  3. conduct various laboratory and field tests at a professional health club; and
  4. utilize the tools of effective oral and written communication related to personal training, including public speaking skills, professional and scholarly report preparation, and computer literacy.
