Children’s Developmental Class

Do you know a child with social, language, physical or developmental challenges?

Are you a parent of a special education child, a child not yet diagnosed with any type of delay, or a child with a 504 plan? If so, your family may benefit from our Children’s Developmental Class for families with a special needs child. The class will help your child manage their unique challenges.

We help children ages 1 -14 who have:
  • Autism
  • Speech or language delays
  • ADHD
  • Down syndrome
  • Learning disabilities
  • Social issues
  • PTSD
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Sensory issues
  • Other learning or motor delays
Student volunteers work with children to improve:
  • Language and communication skills
  • Self-esteem and confidence
  • Emotional connections
  • Body awareness
  • Fine and gross motor skills
  • Balance and coordination

Fun with Friends Class
Our classes are a one-on-one Fun with Friends program using the floor-time approach, which moves from building on each child’s interests to practicing parent-chosen skills in a non-threatening way. By observing and following your child’s choices, volunteers build a relaxed, supportive atmosphere, and work to turn your child’s interests into opportunities for social interaction. In small increments kids are encouraged to try new activities and skills. The parent input forms help set up a suggested list of skills designed specifically for each individual child and volunteer to practice.

Our low-cost program offers families the opportunity to register their non-disabled children as well for no additional charge.

Parent Education Class
The parent education class provides opportunities for informal education and discussion. Each week professional college and community speakers are invited to address our parent group on a vast range of topics such as nutrition, state and local agency support, community resources, social and emotional health, as well as school issues such as IEP meetings, advocating for your child and parental rights. This is not a drop-off program. For the safety of the children, parents are encouraged to stay on-site and attend the parent class while their child attends class in the gym.
