CONSTRUCTION PRE-APPRENTICESHIP CORE
CONTINUING EDUCATION CERTIFICATE

Prepare for an apprenticeship or other entry-level position in construction and related fields. In the Core, you will learn safety, construction math, blueprint reading, tool usage, and other trade skills used in a wide variety of construction jobs. The Core includes 150-hours of training leading to a “Construction Pre-Apprenticeship Core” Continuing Education Certificate and several industry certifications: First Aid/CPR; OSHA 10 for Construction; Baltimore Building and Construction Trades Council, AFL-CIO; and National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER).Classes offered day or evenings and Saturdays.

The Core consists of the following classes:

• CON 315, Construction Safety
• APP 680, First Aid/CPR/AED
• CON 316, Construction Skills I
• CON 317, Construction Skills II

Classes run from 8am to 2:30pm. On some days, one class ends before 2:30pm and the next class in the series starts immediately. A complete schedule of classes is available at orientation, the first Friday of every month at CCBC Randallstown, 3637 Offutt Road.
Total Cost: $1,399 (Tuition: $360 Fees: $1039)

APP 680
First Aid, CPR, and AED

Learn basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid techniques in order to become certified by the American Red Cross (ARC).
Total Cost: $200 (Tuition: $80 Fees: $120)

CON 315
Construction Safety

Learn about construction safety in this Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) authorized training. You will receive a certificate upon successful completion. Topics include an introduction to OSHA, electrical safety, fall protection, personal protective equipment, ladder and stairway safety, material handling, hand and power tool safety, crane safety, and excavation safety.
Total Cost: $250 (Tuition: $100 Fees: $150)

CON 316
Construction Skills I

Gain an overview of different construction trades and trade-related occupations. Become familiar with the green industry using green construction processes. Learn to use hand and power tools safely. Develop skills to get and keep a job, including conflict resolution, time management, and problem solving. Examine the heritage of the American worker, and discuss current employment and labor laws.

CON 317
Construction Skills II

Learn the fundamentals of how to read and understand construction blueprints. Develop skills in applying a variety of math concepts used in the construction industry including measurements, fractions, conversions, metric system and construction. Become familiar with how to recognize drawings in development stage; organize drawings; and read site plans, architectural and mechanical/electrical drawings.

CONSTRUCTION APPRENTICESHIP PREPARATION 
CONTINUING EDUCATION CERTIFICATE 

Pre-apprentices learn the basic skilled trades. Many take that learning and apply to state-registered apprenticeship programs to continue their education and attain their journeyperson’s certificate. In addition to core construction classes, in carpentry, electrical, or plumbing students can take specialty classes.


Prepare for an apprenticeship or other entry-level positions in construction and related fields.

Specialty:
Students must complete the Core at CCBC or elsewhere to be eligible. Choose fromCarpentryElectricalPlumbing, or Power Generation. All offer a “Construction Apprenticeship Preparation, Specialty” Continuing Education Certificate and NCCER Level 1.
