The math skills reviewed in this class are directly related to math used in allied health courses and in the health care field. Heartsaver CPR

This course presents information about the American Heart Association (AHA) chain of survival, skills in CPR and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction for adults, infants and children. Upon successful completion of skills demonstration you will be presented with a successful completion card. This course suitable for lay rescuers who are expected to respond to emergencies in the workplace and anyone who needs a credential documenting completion of a CPR course.

EKG TECHNICIAN
CONTINUING EDUCATION CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
You must successfully complete Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced EKG in order to meet the eligibility requirements to sit for the National certification exam.

Intermediate EKG Technician Training

Advanced EKG Technician Training

VENIPUNCTURE/SPECIMEN COLLECTION TRAINING

IV Therapy Technician Training

Health care providers can learn how to initiate, maintain and discontinue intravenous therapies. You must already know how to draw blood and must present proof of training. Beginning Spring 2009, all students must complete Medical Terminology prior to taking Nursing Assistant.

This Maryland Board of Nursing approved course prepares you to function as a nursing assistant in a variety of healthcare settings. Upon completion of Theory and Clinical, you are eligible to take the state GNA certification examination. Nursing Support Technician I

Review the basic skills learned in CNA courses and learn new skills that expand your knowledge to become a Nurse Support or Patient Care Technician. RN Case Manager/Delegating Nurse Training for Assisted Living
Total Cost $300 (Tuition $125 Fees $175)
Created to update the knowledge and skills of current Assisted Living Facility (ALF) RN Case Managers / Delegating Nurses and those with an interest in entering this field. This Maryland Board of Nursing approved course provides a basic foundation for the RN who:

•Delegates nursing functions in the ALF setting, including medication administration
•Teaches medication administration to the medication technician in assisted living.

The Maryland Community College Association for Continuing Education (MCCACET) is accredited as a provider of continuing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

Nurse Refresher-Part I: Theory

Approved by the Maryland Board of Nursing, the course centers on the current practice of medical-surgical nursing in acute care, including adult physical assessment, ethical and legal aspects of nursing practice, current trends in health care delivery and review of dosage, and solutions calculation. Nurse Refresher-Part II: Clinical

This is the clinical practicum component prescribed by the Maryland Board of Nursing. Medical-surgical clinical experience occurs in an acute care facility in metropolitan Baltimore. Facilities and their locations vary according to availability. The practicum is open ONLY to nurses with a current active or inactive license from the MD Board of Nursing. A CCBC Certificate is awarded upon completion. Attendance is mandatory.

MEDICINE AIDE

Medicine Aide Training
If you are currently employed as a CNA/GNA in a Maryland licensed long-term care (LTC) facility with a minimum of one year (2000 hours over the past three years) of compensated employment, this class is for you. Agency hours do not apply. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, you'll learn to perform skills necessary to become a Certified Medicine Aide (CMA). Content includes classroom instruction, skills lab practice, and clinical at a local LTC facility. After registration, and before the first class begins, complete reading and math assessments at the Dundalk Campus. All students are required to bring the following documentation to the first class:

• Original, current, active unencumbered Maryland CNA/GNA/CMA registry card
• Proof of a current negative TB skin test or a negative chest x-ray.
• Signed letter by the DON typed on LTC facility letterhead verifying a minimum of 8 hours of compensated employment as a CNA/GNA/CMA during the past two years.

DAY CARE PROVIDER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

This three course program meets the 99 Hour Child Care Certification requirements for director and senior staff positions at daycare facilities (COMAR 07.04.02). You must take CHI 019, CHI020, and CHI031.

Child Care I Growth and Development

This continuing education course satisfies 45 hours of the 99 hour requirements as stated in COMAR 07.04.01 for directors and senior staff in group child care centers. Pharmacy Technician Training I

Learn the role of the Pharmacy Technician in a pharmaceutical setting. This is the first of two courses leading to national certification as a Pharmacy Technician. Topics include roles and responsibilities of the pharmacy technician, drug classification, dosages, history of drugs in the U.S., legal and ethical issues surrounding drugs/medications and names, usages, contraindications of 100 drugs. Prerequisite: Successful completion of Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology and Basic Math for Health Care Workers.

The Veterinary Assistant series prepares you to work directly in an animal hospital under the supervision of a veterinarian or veterinarian technician. The series consists of four courses and a supervised clinical placement in an animal hospital, throughout the course work. You must be computer literate and have internet access to be successful in this program. Clinical eligibility is in part dependant upon a criminal background check and random urine drug testing.
Cost of testing is the responsibility of the student.

This course introduces the student to the career of Veterinary Assistant. This is the first of four courses and focuses on the operation of the front office, role delineation, prevention and education. Students are introduced to basic veterinary terminology, anatomy and physiology, taking a medical history, euthanasia, and customer service.

CONTINUING EDUCATION CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
NEWLY STRUCTURED PROGRAM for Fall 2008

This program is designed to help you work through a self-study program. You must successfully complete all six OPMA courses. Passing the exam at the end of this program and one year of experience in the field will make you eligible to sit for the certifying exam with JCAPHO. Ophthalmic Medical Assistant (OPMA)

This course is designed to teach the "self-study" program from the Joint Commission of Allied Health Professions-Ophthalmic (JCAHP-O). Upon the completion of this course and successful work experience, you are able to sit for national certification as an ophthalmic assistant. You will learn basic anatomical structures of the eye and skull, common ophthalmic diseases and their symptoms and treatment. You also learn skills necessary to operate equipment in the ophthalmic office, assist with eye exam and provide patient education.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Medical Terminology, HIPAA and CPR certification.

Course graduates are eligible to take the International Association of Health Care Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) certification exam to become a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST).

Central Service Technicians are responsible for material management, supply, processing and distribution in a health care facility. Central Service Technicians reprocess, decontaminate, disinfect, prepare, package, sterilize, and distribute medical-surgical instruments, equipment and soft goods products. Central Service Technicians work as part of a support service team in hospitals and large ambulatory care settings and earn $8-10 per hour to start with an increase after certification. The Surgical Technology (ST) series is a 13-month course of study divided into 4 modules. Surgical Technologists are integral members of the surgical team who work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses and other surgical personnel to deliver care to the surgical patient. Surgical Technologists must have the ability to work under pressure in stressful situations, be detail oriented, and be able to work quickly and accurately. They must be keenly sensitive to the surgical patient and other members of the surgical team. Clinical eligibility is in part dependant upon a criminal background check and random urine drug testing. Cost of testing is the responsibility of the student.
