Basic Math Skills for the Health Care Worker

The math skills reviewed in this class are directly related to math used in allied health courses and in the health care field. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions and decimals, converting fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions and using the metric system for measurements will be presented along with how to setup basic algebraic equations to solve health care problems (e.g., dosages).

Learn to collect blood and body fluid specimens used in throat cultures, urinalysis and stool cultures, and prepare samples for testing in a lab. Created to update the knowledge and skills of current Assisted Living Facility (ALF) RN Case Managers / Delegating Nurses and those with an interest in entering this field. This Maryland Board of Nursing approved course provides a basic foundation for the RN who:

CONTINUING EDUCATION CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
NEWLY STRUCTURED PROGRAM
This program is designed to help you work through a self-study program. You must successfully complete all six OPMA courses. Passing the exam at the end of this program and one year of experience in the field will make you eligible to sit for the certifying exam with JCAPHO. Clinical eligibility is in part dependant upon a criminal background check and random urine drug testing. Cost of testing is the responsibility of the student.

This course is designed to teach the "self-study" program from the Joint Commission of Allied Health Professions-Ophthalmic (JCAHP-O). Upon the completion of this course and successful work experience, you are able to sit for national certification as an ophthalmic assistant. You will learn basic anatomical structures of the eye and skull, common ophthalmic diseases and their symptoms and treatment. You also learn skills necessary to operate equipment in the ophthalmic office, assist with eye exam and provide patient education.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Medical Terminology, HIPAA and CPR certification.

*CENTRAL SERVICE TECHNICIAN*
Central Service Technicians are responsible for material management, supply, processing and distribution in a health care facility. Central Service Technicians reprocess, decontaminate, disinfect, prepare, package, sterilize, and distribute medical-surgical instruments, equipment and soft goods products. Central Service Technicians work as part of a support service team in hospitals and large ambulatory care settings. If interested, call for information packet 443-840-1819. The Surgical Technology (ST) series is a 13-month course of study divided into 4 modules. Surgical Technologists are integral members of the surgical team who work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses and other surgical personnel to deliver care to the surgical patient. Surgical Technologists must have the ability to work under pressure in stressful situations, be detail oriented, and be able to work quickly and accurately. They must be keenly sensitive to the surgical patient and other members of the surgical team. Clinical eligibility is in part dependant upon a criminal background check and random urine drug testing. Cost of testing is the responsibility of the student.
