ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES (ESOL)

No cost classes are supported by grant funding from Maryland Literacy Works and the U.S Department of Education.

Beginning ESOL- Lifeskills*Grant Funded-No Cost ( ESOL Básico)
This course will help beginning students learn basic English for workplace and community settings. Topics to be covered include: simple questions and answers, filling out forms, understanding time and numbers, and following directions. New students must take a pre-test at registration. 7 weeks/60 hours, three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday). Returning students please bring the Returning Student Referral Form to avoid being retested. No registration fee, materials included. Intermediated ESOL - Lifeskills *Grant Funded-No Cost ( ESOL Intermedio)
This course will help intermediate students improve English for workplace and community settings. Topics to be covered include: simple conversations, requesting information, writing notes or short letters, understanding instructions, and interpreting schedules. New intermediate students must take a pre-test at registration. 7 weeks/60 hours, three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday). English for Healthcare Service Workers (Intermediate)
Cost: No Fee (** grant funded)
This course is designed for intermediate students to improve job-related communication skills for the Healthcare Service Industry. Students will enhance their oral communication skills to meet their immediate job demands and to advance in their career field. Topics to be covered include learning basic grammar, understanding instructions, interpreting schedules, performing simple customer care tasks, learning job-specific terminology and common staff roles and responsibilities, and becoming familiar with structure of a medical facility. 7 weeks/60 hours, three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday). This is a new course.

English for Hotel and Food Service Workers (Intermediate)
Cost: No Fee (** grant funded)
This course is designed to help intermediate students improve job-related communication skills for the Hotel and Food Service Industry. Students will enhance their oral communication skills to meet their immediate job demands and to advance in their career field. Topics to be covered include learning basic grammar, understanding instructions, interpreting schedules, performing simple customer care tasks, learning job-specific terminology and common staff roles and responsibilities, and becoming familiar with structure of a hotel or food catering facility. This is a new course.

Beginning and Intermediate classes start the first week of July and end in late August.  Complete class schedules will be given at registration.

This course is designed to help advanced foreign born adults improve their level of comprehension, fluency, and accuracy in oral conversations. Topics to be covered include: speaking and listening skills, and appropriate conversation for the workplace and academic settings. 7 weeks/60 hours, three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday). ESOL Advanced Reading, Writing & Editing
(ESOL Avanzado en Lectura, Escritura y Revisión)
Cost: $ 75 (Tuition: $35 Fees: $40)
This course is designed to help advanced foreign born adults develop a firm basis in specific reading, writing, and editing skills. Topics to be covered include: reading and vocabulary strategies, identifying genre, identifying discourse markers, compound and complex sentence structure, paragraph organization, drafting and revisiting, and self and peer editing. 7 weeks/60 hours, three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday). ESOL Family Literacy for Parents and Children  *Grant Funded – No Fee
This class is designed for parents and their elementary school aged or younger children. Helps improve reading, speaking, writing and listening skills focusing on materials used in everyday, family, school, and job-related situations. Class includes training for parents on how to be full partners in their children's education. Pre-school and/or childcare provided, with educational activities that focus on the preparation of the children for success in school and other life experiences. Call the site you want to attend to make an appointment to be assessed.

Grammar for ESL Online
Cost: $99 (Tuition: $20 Fees: $79)
This 6-week online course includes in-depth analysis of English grammar for intermediate to advanced English as Second Language college students. Structure of Standard English is explored in order to prepare the learner for regular mainstream English classes. Topics include a review of all tenses, the use of modals, the adjective clause, the noun clause, the adverb clause, phrases, count and non-count nouns, and some English terms.
