Foreign Language - CE

FLG 013 – Conversational Spanish

This intermediate class is designed to teach students basic pronunciation and beginning Spanish skills. Functional social language and basic vocabulary will be explored as well as simple dialogues for friendly conversation.

Course Objectives:
1. pronounce Spanish sight words;
2. use social language, such as greeting, farewell, thank you, etc;
3. name common objects and use adjectives to describe them;
4. engage in a simple dialogue; and
5. demonstrate an increased understanding of general elements of Spanish culture.

FLG 021 – SIGN LANGUAGE BEGINNING

Course Objectives:
1. demonstrate the ability to sign the alphabet, numbers, and words;
2. identify hand and body configurations;
3. demonstrate the ability to interpret sign language;
4. demonstrate the ability to respond through sign language; and
5. discuss various types of non-verbal communication.

FLG 023 – Sign Language Beginning

This course is designed to introduce students with disabilities to manual communication techniques used by deaf and hearing-impaired individuals. Topics the alphabet, numbers, expressive and receptive skills.

Course Objectives:
1. demonstrate the ability to sign the alphabet, numbers, and words;
2. identify hand and body configurations; and
3. demonstrate the ability to interpret sign language.

FLG 024 – SIGN LANGUAGE BEGINNING

Course Objectives:
1. demonstrate the ability to sign the alphabet, numbers, and words;
2. identify hand and body configurations;
3. demonstrate the ability to interpret sign language;
4. demonstrate the ability to respond through sign language;
5. discuss various types of non-verbal communication; and
6. demonstrate the use of finger spelling to communicate proper names and places.

FLG 028 – Explore Japanese Language and Culture

Explore the Japanese language and culture. Integrate culture and language through conversational dialogues, music, games and hands-on activities. Topics include an introduction to basic Japanese language and culture; vocabulary for greetings, numbers, family members, colors, daily activities and food and the cultural aspects of cooking, art, dance, games and music.

Course Objectives:
1. demonstrate an understanding of the basic Japanese language,
2. name some basic elements of Japanese culture,
3. use basic conversation in Japanese, and
4. demonstrate an enhanced cultural awareness.

FLG 033 – Spanish for Office Personnel

Learn the Spanish necessary for office personnel. Topics include greeting customers and clients; making appointments; gathering personal data; receiving and making personal phone calls; handling payments, returns, and refunds; assisting walk-in customers and clients and managing disgruntled clients.

Course Objectives:
1. demonstrate the use of Spanish to greet customers and clients;
2. demonstrate the use of Spanish to make appointments;
3. demonstrate the use of Spanish to gather personal data;
4. demonstrate the use of Spanish to receive and make phone calls;
5. demonstrate the use of Spanish to handle payments, returns and refunds;
6. demonstrate the use of Spanish to assist walk-in customers and clients; and
7. demonstrate the use of Spanish to manage disgruntled clients.

FLG 039 – BASIC SPANISH 2

Course Objectives:
1. initiate and converse with basic dialogues in the present tense;
2. properly use and conjugate present tense verbs;
3. conjugate and use stem-changing verbs; and
4. demonstrate the ability to read basic passages of Spanish.
