In residence on the Essex campus, the CCBC Dance Company, under the
artistic direction of Christian Richards and Bethany Kwasniewski, was
featured in the July/August issue of Dance Teacher magazine. Membership
includes full-time students as well as concurrent enrollment and
continuing education participants. The Company holds main stage
performances on the Dundalk campus in the Fall and the Essex campus in
the Spring. The Company also conducts various outreach performances
during the year, professional development trips including an annual Fall
excursion to New York to attend classes and performances, and annual
participation in the American College Dance Festival in the Spring.
Guest teachers and performers such as Mary Seidman from Mary Seidman and
Dancers in NYC, Luis Torres from the Washington Ballet, and dancers from
movement/addiction conduct regular master classes, seminars and perform
with the student dancers. Students are encouraged to schedule informal
performances of works in progress in either of the spacious dance
studios, in addition to having the opportunity to participate in the
annual Student Works Showcase held on the Essex campus.
The CCBC Dance Company holds auditions on the Friday and Saturday at 2pm
of the first week of each semester. Dancers are not required to attend
both days but are encouraged to. Once accepted, dancers must be
concurrently enrolled in at least one modern or ballet technique class
and DANC 150/151, the company workshop class.
