EMT Applicant Packet
Thank you for your interest in the CCBC Essex Emergency Medical
Technology Program. This application packet is the first step in gaining
acceptance into the EMT Program. Please look over the packet before
completing it, and call the EMT Program office at 410-780-6427/6477 if
you have any questions. This packet must be submitted not later than the
date specified below. The packet must be completed in full and all
forms (biographical profile, recommendations, copies of
certificates/licenses, and official academic transcripts) must be
returned at the same time to the office of Selective Admissions.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Enrollment in this Program is limited by the availability of laboratory
and clinical facilities. Graduates are employed by public, commercial,
and industrial EMS services, as well as a variety of health care
facilities. Graduates are eligible for the National Registry of EMT’s
Paramedic certification, and the Maryland Institute for Emergency
Medical Services licensure as a Maryland Paramedic.

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Once you have been admitted into CCBC and have completed any required
developmental courses, you are eligible to apply to the EMT program. A
new complete application must be submitted each year a student applies
to the Program.
In addition to the above requirements, applicants applying to the CCBC
Essex EMT Program must meet the following specific requirements:

Must be a Maryland certified EMT Basic or Cardiac Rescue
Technician-Intermediate.

Must have documented affiliation with a recognized Maryland public
service or commercial emergency medical services provider as defined
in the Code of Maryland Regulation (COMAR) Title 30.

Must have documented seventy-five (75) emergency care contacts.

Must be age 18 or older.

Must have a high school diploma or have a G.E.D.

Must have completed all of the College’s admissions procedures and
criteria.

Meet the specifications of the Functional Job Analysis for EMT’s. A
copy of this document is available from the EMT Program office, and by
accessing the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
web site at www.nhtsa.gov.
Note: Students entering the CRT-I to Paramedic Bridge course must have
completed with a grade of “C” or better BIOL 220 Human Anatomy &
Physiology I (*), and a college level math course (suggest MATH 111
Ideas in Mathematics) or their acceptable equivalents. (*) Has a
prerequisite course.
Applicants who complete the EMT Basic course at CCBC Essex are given
preference when considering potential applicants to the EMT Program.
Applicants who wish to be guaranteed consideration for the CCBC Essex
EMT Program EMT-B to Paramedic or CRT-I to Paramedic Bridge course
must submit all application materials by July 15th for the
program commencing in the Fall.
Applicants must have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 2.5 and a
grade of “C” in all related College courses to be considered. Applicants
who have completed the greatest number of related courses with the
highest GPA will be considered the most academically competitive
candidates. Applicants with work-related experience (paid or volunteer)
in a healthcare related, patient-contact capacity will also be given
preference.

APPLICATION PROCESS
All of the materials in this application packet must be submitted as one
package.

The applicant data form.

The biographical profile. Write a biographical profile on the form
provided. This is one of the most important parts of the application
package. This is your chance to tell the application review committee
about yourself, and what makes you the best candidate for acceptance
into the program. This form must be typed!

Professional Recommendations. Submit three (3) recommendations with
this application on the forms provided. For public service (paid or
volunteer) applicants, one recommendation must come from a senior
EMS/fire/rescue officer In the case of a commercial service applicant,
from the operations manager. The remaining two recommendations can
come from any other individuals of the your choosing, except family
members (e.g. parents, siblings, significant others). These
recommendations must be submitted in sealed envelopes.

An official copy of any transcript(s) from college(s) attended other
than CCBC.

A copy of the applicant’s current Maryland EMT Basic certification or
Cardiac Rescue Technician Intermediate license card; and a copy of a
current American Heart Association Health Care Provider CPR card or
its equivalent.
Applicants must notify both The CCBC Essex Records and Registration
office and the Office of Selective Admissions of any changes of address
or telephone number during the time of the applicant being considered
for admission.
The College is not responsible for lost, delayed, or misdirected mail.

ACCEPTANCE INTO THE PROGRAM
Applicants to the CCBC Essex EMT Program will be notified by mail of
program acceptance prior to the program commencing in the Fall.
Applicants who are accepted into the CCBC Essex EMT Program must submit
a physical examination form (provided by the Program) completed by a
physician and must meet minimal physical and medical standards.
Applicants who are unsuccessful in gaining acceptance into the CCBC
Essex EMT Program will be required to submit a new, complete,
application to the program every year they apply.
All CCBC Essex EMT Program students must have reliable transportation to
assigned clinical sites.
