Highlights: Costa Rica has been called the "greenest" country on Earth because of its progressive environmental policies. This course will examine the rich ecological diversity of Costa Rica and its many micro-climates, the mammals, birds, plants and flora that live there. Explore the volcanoes, rain forests, cloud forests and coffee plantations that make Costa Rica one of the most ecotourism destinations in the world.

Highlights of the Trip:

Enjoy nine (9) wonderful days in Costa Rica, visiting nature's museum. We will leave from BWI airport and fly into San Jose. Highlights of the trip include:

  • San Jose, a visit to a coffee plantation in Tamarindo Beach
  • Guanacaste, a region known for its breathtaking beauty and fine sandy beaches
  • Monteverde Cloud Forest where you will learn and view the cloud forest's unique eco system, its mammals, birds, plants and fauna
  • Arenal Volcano, which is still very much alive!
  • Lake Arenal cruise, the largest and most important lake in Costa Rica
  • A cooking demonstration to see how native, exotic vegetables and plants contribute to the flavors of Costa Rican cuisine
  • Cano Negro Refuge, where you will take a guided river cruise with stops to watch the wild life including crocodiles, otters, sloths, river turtles, exotic birds and butterflies
  • Zarcero, a charming town, Grecia, a small picturesque town with an interesting church constructed of rich red metal panes
  • San Jose's Plaza de Cultura and the National Theatre, a beautiful post-Baroque building
  • And much more, with time to explore and shop!
