Use the Periodical Databases to find focused articles on your thesis.
Go to the List of all databases or find more information on the Magazine & Journal page.

  • The best databases for Psychology & Social Science journal articles are in: 

    • Proquest Direct under collections: Psychology Journals and Research Library has modules in Multicultural, Social Sciences. Their is a tab to see scholarly articles only.

    • Science Direct has many psychology journal articles.
    • In EBSCO click on Academic Search Premier, Psychology Articles and /or PsychInfo for psychology & general journal articles. Click on the advanced search and click on Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals.

    • Psychology articles are also in the free open journal databases:Directory of Open Access Journals & The Public Library of Science (PLoS)

    • Ethnic News Watch and Gender Watch have articles from newspaper & magazines.

    • You can also search for articles in Electronic Magazines, Journals, and Newspapers by Title & Subject
  • For Databases by subject use the List of Databases by Subject or the Psychology Databases.

  • For magazine and journal articles try the General Interest Periodical Databases such as:  Proquest Research Library , Academic Search Premier , Opposing Viewpoints, CQ Researcher and SIRS.

  • To access these databases from home or office please follow the instructions for off-campus access.

Web Resources: Top

Some Web Resources might be useful. Use Evaluative Web Guides, such as Librarian's Index to the Internet,and Subject Directories to find web sites on your cultural group. They will give you links to more specific information.

Use Search Engines, such as Google or Meta Search Engines, such as Vivismo to focus your search for web sites. To get better results connect your terms with the Boolean term "and"(ex:profiling and Black Americans, psychological aspects and homosexuals, disabled and self esteem) or put quotes around a phrase (ex:"ethnic profiling" and impact, "Japanese American internment".

Evaluate: Evaluate your material for its relevance and authenticity. See evaluation criteria for web sites.

Can be browsed by country or by topic.

American Cultural Links from Yahoo List of links to different American ethnic groups.

Multicultural Teaching - Resources from the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching from the University of Michigan.

Diversity Bibliography - An annotated bibliography of online links and print resources about diversity. Compiled for journalists by the Poynter Institute.

Yale University African American Studies Research Guide includes links to associations, research and search engines only on African American information.

AFSCME LaborLinks: Gay and Lesbian Resources Collection of links to diverse sources of information on gay, lesbian, and transgender issues in the workplace. From the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME).

Women's Studies / Women's Issues Resource Sites A selective set of links to sites with information about women's studies or women's issues. Includes 16 topical subsections, such as Activism, Arts and Humanities, Health, Cyberculture and Internet Information, Science and Technology, Sexuality and Sexual Orientation, Women of Color, and more.

National Council of La Raza. The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) is a nonprofit organization established in 1968 to reduce poverty and discrimination, and improve life opportunities for Hispanic Americans. It's Web site offers news and information about Hispanic communities and issues.

Hot Topics: Hispanic Heritage Month Includes a brief overview of Hispanic culture and links to information about contributions of Hispanics, Hispanic personalities, and related topics. From the Daniel J. Evans Library of The Evergreen State College (Olympia, Washington).

100 Questions and Answers about Arab Americans: A Journalist's Guide- Site from the Detroit Free Press presents an overview and discusses the origins, language, statistics, family life, customs, religion, politics, terminology, and stereotypes about Arab Americans.

Applied Research Center The Applied Research Center is a public policy, educational and research institute whose work emphasizes issues of race and social change.
