There are many resources through the library and the Internet to do your research on Botany Here are just a few suggestions:

Books: Most of the books on Botany are in the QK section and the Horticulture & Gardening are in the SB section of the library.
Do a subject search using the CCBC Dundalk Library Catalog to find books on your topic. Hint- Start with a subject search on a broad topic, ex: roses or narrow your topic with a keyword search ex: roses and cultivation.

Best Databases for Botany: Journals are in Science Direct. Information on plants and gardening are in the general databases Proquest Research Library & National Newspapers, EBSCO Academic Search Premier, Mas Ultra, Business Source Premier,and Regional Business News . We have general online encyclopedias and a science encyclopedia called Access Science.

Search the individual online magazines/journals by going to Electronic Magazines, Journals, and Newspapers by Title & Subject
Browse by subject - choose the category life sciences and agriculture than choose botany and search within the publications.

Please follow the instructions for off-campus access if you are not on campus.

Internet Directory for Botany - The directory is an authority when it comes to gardening, plants and the Web. It is expansive and includes information for everyone everywhere, from weekend gardeners in California to scholars in Wales. Some 4,000 botany related links are organized into 18 subject categories.

Wayne's World - Botany Class from Wayne's World: An On-Line Textbook of Natural History -This site, intended to supplement courses in biology and botany offered at Palomar College (San Marcos, Calif.) Botany online - The Internet Hypertextbook aims at passing on plant knowledge to students and is based on the textbook 'Botanik'. This site includes coloured illustrations and photos by animated molecular models, short animations of movements and flower diagrams. Harford Glen Environmental Education Center An integral part of the Harford County Public Schools system, coordinates a comprehensive, sequential, and participatory program of environmental education. Baltimore Conservatory and Botanic Gardens It is a horticultural showcase and learning center for citizens of all ages. It includes a formal outdoor gardens featuring locally adapted vegetation, which is rotated according to season. Royal Horticultural Society - http://www.rhs.org.uk/ Britain's leading gardening society offers a plethora of gardening and botanical information, which includes scientific and research articles, plants catalogue and photographs, and the plant forum (in "RHS News") which includes new plant varieties. You may find information on genetic research, pests and diseases, and the plant registration authority. Includes links to the Illustrations and Glossary.

Specialized Databases - some with only plant images

Botany Vascular Plant Images - According to Native Vascular Plants, they are most of the familiar plants and "have systems for transporting water and photosynthetic products and are differentiated into stems, leaves, and roots." (Nonvascular plants are "the algae, fungi, and mosses and lichens.") This site contains over 8800 plant images. Noble Foundation Plant Image Gallery A searchable collection of images to assist with the identification of plants. Currently 600 species of vascular plants are available including those of grasses and grasslike plants; forbs; and trees, shrubs, and woody vines. Browse by common, family, and scientific names. California Plants and Habitats - A collection of more than 20,000 color images of native and naturalized California plant species and habitats, each image linked to scientific information on that species. The Hidden Forest Searchable information about the lichen, bryophytes, fungi, and slime moulds that carpet forest floors. Plants Photochemical and Ethnobotanical Databases - The USDA Agricultural Research Service hosts this collection of searchable databases. Medicinal Plants of Native America has thousands of records documenting medicinal uses of botanical species used by over 100 Native American tribes. It is searchable by plant name, tribe, and use. The Ethnobotany Database is international in scope and can be searched by plant name, country, and medicinal use. The Photochemical Database includes pharmacological, toxic activity and assay information on plants. The Food plant Database provides information on Native American food plants.
