Research Tips- Plagiarism

Web Resources

There are many resources through the library and the Internet to do your research on Health scenarios Here are just a few suggestions:

Books: Most of the books on Biology are in the QH, physiology QP section and the Health are in the RA-RM section of the library.
Do a subject search using the CCBC Library Catalog to find books on your topic. Hint- Start with a subject search on a broad topic, ex: massage therapy or narrow your topic with a keyword search ex: massage therapy and cancer.

Magazine, Journals, & Newspapers:
Use the Periodical Databases to find focused articles on your topic. Go the List of Health Databases or go to the List of all databases by Subject.

Best Databases for Health journals are Proquest Nursing Journal, Science Direct, Ebsco Medline, CINAHL & CINAHL Full text, AltHealth Watch, Health Source Nursing Academic . Encyclopedic and magazines articles are in Health Source Consumer, Access Science. Science Resource Center. Articles on health issues are in the general databases Proquest Research Library, EBSCO Academic Search Premier.

Search the individual online magazines/journals by going to Electronic Magazines, Journals, and Newspapers by Title & Subject
Browse by subject - choose the category health and biological sciences than choose biology or Alternative Medicine or Physiology and search within the publications.

Please follow the instructions for off-campus access if you are not on campus.
Search Tips for Databases - Remember to try different search words to find information. Use your particular topic or use broad terms (Example: "massage therapy".)

Use Search Engines , such as Google or Meta Search Engines, to focus your search for web sites in your field.
To get better results connect your terms with the Boolean term "and" (ex: "heart disease" and "radiation therapy") or put quotes around a phrase (ex:"massage therapy".)

Medline Plus Asthma : overviews, latest news and links to medical websites on asthma.

Massage Therapy: provides a general overview of massage therapy used as CAM (complimentary and alternative medicine)and suggests some resources you can use to learn more. From the National Institute of Health

Massage therapy:This interactive tutorial by the National Library of Medicine MEDLINEplus service. The tutorial provides background information on massage therapy and covers the benefits and risks, and what happens before, during and after the massage.

GetBodySmart : skeletal system : anatomy and physiology an animated, interactive teaching resource covering the fields of human anatomy and physiology, developed by Scott Sheffield (a university lecturer with 21 years experience), aims to explain the body's complex physiological interactions and illustrate its important anatomical landmarks. This page is specific to the skeletal system.
