Use Search Engines, such as Google or Meta Search Engines, such as Vivismo to focus your search for web sites.

To get better results connect your terms with the Boolean term "and"(ex:children and nutrition) or put quotes around a phrase (ex:"professional ethics".) Performing Precise Searches on web searching

Child Development: 

National Center for Early Development & Learning (NCEDL)http://www.fpg.unc.edu/~ncedl NCEDL is a national early childhood research project supported by the US Department of Education's Institute for Educational Sciences (IES)." It focuses on enhancing the cognitive, social and emotional development of children from birth through age eight." This site features case studies, reports, fact sheets, and other research documents on topics such as child development, early childhood education, and education policy. Includes related links.

*Child and Family WebGuide A searchable site that "describes and evaluates web sites that contain research-based information about child development." About 125 sites are arranged in the categories Education/Learning, Health/Mental Health, Family/Parenting, Childcare/Daycare, and Typical Development. There is also a section for parents that includes after school activities, child care, family weekends, movies and media, private schools, and summer activities (these sites are not rated). Zero to Three Dedicated to promotion of healthy development of children from birth to age three. This searchable site contains information on a baby's social, emotional, and intellectual development. The site has sections for parents and for professionals. Brainworks explores how the brain develops in the context of relationships. Included are a glossary and related resources. Parent Information contains excerpts from the bimonthly bulletin Zero to Three, which includes rhymes and fingerplays in English and Spanish, books and young children, social skills, and others. There is also information about choosing child care, developmental milestones, many helpful tips, and much more. http://zerotothree.org/

Key Concepts of Early Child Development - http://www.worldbank.org/children/what/ All children progress through an identifiable sequence of physical, cognitive, and emotional growth and change. Children respond best when caregivers use specific techniques designed to encourage and stimulate progress. Some links have older dates.

*ReadyWeb: A Resource for Parents and Educators http://readyweb.crc.uiuc.edu Click on Virtual Library than Research Statistics... for more links to articles. This site provides "an electronic collection of resources on school readiness sponsored by the ERIC Clearinghouse on Elementary and Early Childhood Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, funded by the U.S. Department of Education." It features articles and links to resources on research, public policy, statistics, parenting tips, and other topics. Also includes bibliographies on transitioning to kindergarten and reading, writing, and school readiness. Searchable.

*National Network for Child Care (NNCC) http://www.nncc.org/ The NNCC aims "to share knowledge about children and child care from the vast resources of the land grant universities with parents, professionals, practitioners, and the general public." The site includes research-based articles (some in Spanish); statistical data, licensing information, and programs by state; and conference listings. NNCC is supported by the Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service; U.S. Department of Agriculture; and CYFERNet, the Cooperative Extension System's Children, Youth, and Family Network.

*Head Start Bureau http://www2.acf.dhhs.gov/programs/hsb/ Head Start and Early Head Start are comprehensive child development programs that serve children from birth to age 5, pregnant women, and their families. They are child-focused programs and have the overall goal of increasing the school readiness of young children in low-income families." This site features information about programs and grants, research reports and statistics, bibliographies, and other resources on child development and education. Searchable. Earlychildhood.com http://www.earlychildhood.com Designed for the early childhood educator, this site features articles and Web links to assist teachers with curriculum planning for children from the infant/toddler ages to the kindergarten/primary grade level. Significant content includes arts and crafts ideas, research articles to promote professional development, and a sharing board where practitioners and parents can ask and answer one another's questions. Search the Child Care Central database for child care providers and pre-schools near you.
