CCBC and UMUC partnership increases student access to degrees
CCBC and the University of Maryland
University College (UMUC) are increasing bachelor degree
opportunities and making transferring a breeze through an articulation
agreement between the two institutions. The new agreement, signed in
April, provides a simplified credit-transfer process from CCBC to UMUC
and will facilitate matriculated students’ completion of bachelor’s
degree programs.
This new agreement ensures that CCBC students awarded a degree prior to
beginning classes at UMUC can transfer their general education courses
without worrying about whether or not the courses will be accepted.
Additionally, admission into UMUC is expedited through this partnership
and applications fees are waived for students applying through the
CCBC/UMUC agreement.
Students also gain greater access to scholarships through this
partnership. In fact, UMUC is offering nine full-time scholarships
($3,000 each) and nine part-time scholarships ($1,650 each) to CCBC
students interested in attending UMUC.
“We’re proud to be involved with this initiative,” said CCBC Chancellor
Irving Pressley McPhail. “The articulation agreement is a tremendous
benefit for both institutions. It eases the transfer process for our
students and gives them a greater incentive to continue their education
at UMUC.”
UMUC students also receive an added benefit from this partnership. UMUC
students will now be able to pursue lower-level college courses at CCBC
in order to fulfill general education requirements and/or pre-requisites
for various academic programs offered at UMUC. These students benefit
from the same transfer arrangement as CCBC students – their general
education courses will be easily accepted and credited toward their
bachelor’s degrees at UMUC.
“We are pleased to join The Community College of Baltimore County in an
alliance that promises to benefit CCBC, UMUC and, more importantly,
Maryland students who wish to continue their education and pursue their
dreams,” said UMUC President Gerald A. Heeger. “Universities and
community colleges have an obligation to work together to make lifelong
learning – with its promise of a brighter future – available and
accessible to students.”
This articulation agreement is one of several that CCBC has entered into
over the years. Other institutions with which CCBC has formed
partnerships include Towson University, University of Baltimore and
Frostburg State University.
