Choicing a Biology Course to Meet Your Goals

BIOL 100: Exploring Biology is a three credit , non-laboratory, general eduaction course that explores relationships between biological principles and every day life. Only those needing to fulfill the general education science requirement should take this course.

BIOL 102: Introductuction to Life Science is a three credit, non-laboratory course which is NOT general education is is NOT fully transferable. It is for the students with weak science background or have not recently taken science classes. The course's main intent is for entrance into Anatomy and Physiology but many students use it for remediation before they take 110.

BIOL 104: Botany is a four credit, general education lab course and is transferable. The course covers a broad spectrum of plant diversity. This course is a good choice for a student who requires a general education science class who has an interest in plants. Potential biology and botany majors are also encouraged to take this class.

BIOL 106: Zoology is a four credit, general education lab course and is transferable. The course covers a broad spectrum of animal diversity. This courses is a good choice for a student who requires a general education science class who has an interest in animals. Potential biology and zoology majors are also encouraged to take this course.

BIOL 107: Human Biology is a four credit, general education lab course and is fully transferable. It is an excellent choice for NON-MAJORS. It focuses on the human body and the relationship between humans, their environment and society. The students will find the material relevant to their lives and will have opportunities for discussions besides the traditional lecture/lab set up.

BIOL 108: Investigating the Living World is a four credit, general education lab course and is fully transferable. It focuses on genetics, evolution, and ecology with a short human biology unit. It is also an excellent choice for NON-MAJORS. Because it is the appropriate course for elementary education majors there is a variety of teaching styles used and it is taught with a more constructivist, integrated perspective.

BIOL 109: Human Anatomy & Physiology is a four credit, general education lab course that covers the basics of human anatomy and physiology. Students interested in Massage Therapy, Mental Health, Radiation & Respiratory Care should take this course. This course will NOT be accepted by the Nursing Program.

BIOL 110: Biology I: Molecular & Cells is a four credit, general education lab course and is fully transferable; but it is intended for biology, science and allied heath science MAJORS. The focus of this courses is the cell and how it works. It is a rigorous courses and should not be used for students looking for a general biology course.

BIOL 120: Introduction to Biotechnology is a four credit laboratory course which is NOT general education. The course explores the basic biological and chemical principles needed for a careet as a biotechnology technician. Students interested in the certificate in Biotechnology should take this course.
