The Office of Multicultural Affairs was established in 1989 as an
integral part of Student Services at CCBC Essex. Its primary focus is
facilitate the adjustment of African American and other minority
students to college life. The Office also assumes the responsibility for
the creation of a supportive environment to promote the achievement of
minority students and to enhance the sensitivity of the greater college
community to the needs, culture and interests of these students.
In addition, the Office seeks to encourage interests in the African
American and other minority cultures by developing and nurturing
relationships with college faculty and staff, community leaders, alumni
and parents. It is the intention of the Office to act as an advocate for
minority students and to enhance their opportunities for a successful
educational experience.
The Office of Multicultural Affairs is staffed by the two coordinators
and a specialist. In general, student groups of diverse ethnicity’s are
encouraged to work with this office and to participate in all of the
activities that are sponsored by this office. The Office is committed to
the idea that every student who enters the campus feel welcomed and
encouraged to participate in every activity that the college offers. The
Office of Multicultural Affairs wholeheartedly supports the college’s
commitment to equity and diversity.
