CCBC March 2008 special events offer something for everyone!
Baltimore County, Md. – The Community College of Baltimore County hosts a myriad of special events during March 2008 on its three main campuses. Many are free and open to the public.
March 1, 2
Cirque Voila! – CCBC Performing Arts Fundraiser – Many new acts!
Acrobats, aerialists, jugglers and more entertain and amaze you at this family-friendly fundraising event for Performing Arts scholarships to be held 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, March 1 and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2 in the B Building Theatre at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd. Tickets are $25 each or $85 for a family foursome. Tickets for special VIP seating and admission to a VIP reception with the artists (after the 7 p.m. performance only) are $50 each. Dundalk Community Theatre presents Other People’s Money 8 p.m. Saturday, March 1 and 3 p.m. Sunday, March 2 in the K Building Theatre at CCBC Dundalk, 7200 Sollers Point Road. This funny, serious and suspenseful drama explores what happens when corporate raiders invade a sleepy New England town. It will make you want to stand up and cheer for the little guy. The Gallery at CCBC Catonsville will host Wake: A Grendel’s Mother Exhibition by artists David Friedheim and Trisha Kyner, weekdays, through March 14, in the Q Building Gallery on the Catonsville campus, 800 S. Children’s Playhouse of Maryland, Inc., in residence at CCBC Essex, presents Peter Pan 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 1 and 2, 8 and 9 and 15 and 16 and 3 p.m. Saturday, March 15 in the J Building Lecture Hall (J-137) on the Essex campus, 7201 Rossville Blvd. All seats are $10 each. This production stars Bradley Bowers of Towson as Peter and Jamie Watson of Beverly Hills in Northeast Baltimore as Wendy. March 10 CCBC Dundalk Honors Program Spring Thing Festival – Call for performers
Are you the next Kelly Clarkson, Dundalk’s version of Chris Brown or a 21st century Leonardo da Vinci? If so, the CCBC Dundalk Honors Program “Spring Thing” committee is looking for the most talented people in the Dundalk area for its Spring Thing Festival to be held noon – 3 p.m. Friday, April 25. Local visual artists, poets, singers, and dancers are encouraged to sign up at spettijohn@ccbcmd.edu. Prizes will be awarded to top performers in each category.
March 12 Celebrate Women’s History Month
Poet jessica Care moore will be the featured CCBC Essex Office of Student Life Spotlight Speaker for Women’s History Month 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, March 12 in the B Building Theatre at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd. According to her Web site, “Care moore has left audiences in awe with her original play There Are No Asylums for the Real Crazy Women. This one-woman stage production brings to life the story of Vivienne Eliot, the late first wife of famous poet T.S. Eliot. Fusing her modern use of poetry, hip-hop culture, feminist thought and language, Care moore, a solo virtuoso, offers a moving and innovative portrayal of an English woman born in 1888.” For more information, call 410-780-6572. College Fair 2008, co-sponsored by CCBC and the Baltimore County Public Schools, will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 12 in the D Building at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 13 in the L Building at CCBC Catonsville, 800 S. March 14 Celebrate Women’s History Month
Music at CCBC presents Barbara Martin and Mac Walter present: Earthy to Elegant: Great Ladies of Blues and Jazz at the Music Forum, 12:20 p.m. Friday, March 14 in the Recital Hall, Building E, CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd. Enjoy a presentation on the music, life and times of great women blues and jazz artists from the 1920s through the 1940s. CCBC Dundalk hosts a “Star Party” 8 p.m. Friday, March 14 at the Observatory on the Dundalk campus, 7200 Sollers Point Road. Stargazers are encouraged to bring their own telescopes or engage in “naked-eye astronomy” to identify stars and constellations. CCBC and the Maryland Humanities Council host the Central District Contest for Maryland History Day 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, March 15 on the Dundalk campus at 7200 Sollers Points Road. Middle school and high school students from Baltimore City and Baltimore County will compete in five different categories on the theme "Conflict and Compromise in History." The English Department in the CCBC School of Liberal Arts hosts its annual “Creative Writing Forum” 7 p.m. Friday, April 11 in the J Building Lecture Hall (J-137) on the Essex campus at 7201 Rossville Blvd. It will feature poet, essayist and novelist Andrei Codrescu, Distinguished Professor of English at Louisiana State University. Dancing with the Stars, CCBC’s 50th Anniversary Gala, will be held 7 p.m. – 1 a.m. Saturday, April 26 at Martin’s Valley Mansion, 594 Cranbrook Road in Hunt Valley. Suggested attire for the gala is black-tie optional. Tickets are $150 per person with proceeds to benefit CCBC student scholarships.
