CCBC offers free tax preparation for 2007 federal and state returns Services available to students, community and staff
Baltimore County, Md. – If you need help filing your 2007 federal and Maryland income tax returns but can’t afford an accountant or tax service, CCBC can help you, and the help is free. Through the Internal Revenue Service’s IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, CCBC Catonsville will offer free tax help 2:30 - 4 p.m. Wednesdays, from Feb. 6 until April 9. It is an invaluable service for low-to-moderate income people who can’t afford tax help and cannot prepare the forms on their own.
CCBC is a longtime participant in the VITA Program and uses accounting students with good grades as preparers. According to Paul Coakley, Business and Management Studies department chair, it’s a win/win for everyone.
“CCBC has offered a free tax clinic and participated in the VITA Program for more than 25 years. It has provided practical accounting experience for our students and allowed our community clients to see how their taxes are being prepared. We hope to continue to offer this service for the 2007 tax season,” says Coakley.
So, gather your records and receipts and let CCBC’s student tax preparers do the work. No appointment is needed, but returns will be processed on a first-come/first-serve basis. For additional information, contact John Whitelock at jwhitelock@ccbcmd.edu or 410-455-4231.
