CCBC to provide strategic energy perspective to Maryland businesses
One-day course for Business Managers, Oct. 6, CCBC Catonsville
Baltimore County, Md. – The Community College of Baltimore County is conducting a special one-day continuing education course, Energy, Money and Business: Strategies for Business Managers, starting 8 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6 at CCBC Catonsville. The five-hour program outlines strategic options for business leaders to conserve, invest and grow wealth through their energy-related choices.
“Energy, carbon and sustainability are opportunities waiting to be captured by business leaders,” notes Christopher Russell, principal of Energy Pathfinder Management Consulting, LLC, and instructor of the CCBC course.
“Businesses are under increasing scrutiny for ‘triple bottom line’ performance—financial, environmental and social. More than just buzz words, these are the keys to competitiveness in the 21st century.” While most “energy” courses tend to be technical or mechanical in nature, this energy course is purposely designed to serve managers who are responsible for planning, budgeting, and operations.
CCBC is offering this class as part of a larger effort to boost energy-related economic development opportunities in Central Maryland. Federal policy initiatives increasingly recognize the economic recovery role played by clean and efficient energy initiatives. CCBC has received state and federal grant funds to promote the development of construction and energy classes.
“CCBC is currently expanding its capacity to keep pace with energy sector needs,” said Beth Arman, Director of Technical Training in CCBC’s Continuing Education and Economic Development division. “We are developing both credit and continuing education courses that will prepare hundreds of workers seeking energy and environmental career options.”
“Energy-related infrastructure is an increasingly critical consideration for business location, growth and contracting leverage,” Russell said. “Vendors seeking government and large commercial contracts are expected to demonstrate ‘green’ and sustainable credentials. Meeting these needs will require technical as well as certain business planning skills.”
