Baltimore, Md. – The Community College of Baltimore County received a grant totaling $53,661 from the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to assist 24 unemployed/underemployed adults obtain their Commercial Driver’s License and improve new driver safety. The Commercial Truck Driver Training program is for low-income individuals living within the Baltimore metropolitan region.

Over a course of six weeks, participants will receive both instructional and hands-on training which will lead to a Class A Commercial Driver’s License. Twenty-eight hours will be devoted to classroom instruction to prepare individuals for testing to receive their commercial driving learner’s permit from the Motor Vehicle Administration. An additional 151 hours is devoted to actual hands-on training where individuals learn to operate a tractor trailer learning road skills, vehicle maneuvering and safety procedures.
