CCBC and Beth Tfiloh bring Atzilut: Concerts for Peace to Baltimore March 28
Hebrew and Arabic musical ensemble harmonizes to promote peace
Baltimore County, Md. – Performing Arts at the Community College of Baltimore County and Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community School present Atzilut: Concerts for Peace 8:45 p.m. Saturday, March 28, in the Mintzes Theatre, Rosen Arts Center at Beth Tfiloh’s Sarah and David S. Brown campus, 3300 Old Court Road, Pikesville. Tickets are $15 each and are available through the CCBC Box Office at 443-840-ARTS.
Atzilut: Concerts for Peace, the Middle East Peace Orchestra from Philadelphia, is a ten-member ensemble of Hebrew and Arabic musicians making a statement for peace through shared music. The group blends virtuoso cantorial vocals with the lightning percussion and hypnotic melodies of a Middle-Eastern orchestra into their own unique contemporary sound. The group is co-led by Hebrew and Arabic vocal specialists—Hazzan Jack Kessler, of the masters of the Jewish spiritual song and the great Lebanese singer, composer and ‘oud virtuoso Maurice Chedid. Atzilut: Concerts for Peace exemplifies the potential for creativity that emerges when musicians representing two traditions with common roots, celebrate hope and trust through music. The resulting musical collaboration is infectious, joyous, deep, sweet and passionate.
Atzilut: Concerts for Peace has been performing for 15 years with appearances before the United Nations, the Algarve International Festival, the Munich Gasteig, the Royal Opera Theatre of Copenhagen as well as tours in France, Austria and Germany this past year. The ensemble is known as The Middle East Peace Orchestra in Europe.
This unique co-sponsorship between the Community College of Baltimore County and Beth Tfiloh is making possible one Baltimore appearance by this world-renowned ensemble. Jacob Enoch called their performance “the best concert we ever had at the United Nations.” More than a concert, Atzilut provides an inspirational model for the creative cooperation so many hope for in the Middle East. The concert is generously supported by Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour and the Maryland Arts Council.
