CCBC rules in Men’s and Women’s NJCAA Region XX Lacrosse Championships
Both teams advance to the NJCAA National Tournament to be played May 9-10
at Herkimer County Community College in New York

Baltimore County, Md. – May 2-3, 2009 was a banner weekend for Community College of Baltimore County Lacrosse teams.

CCBC Essex Men’s Lacrosse
The CCBC Essex Men’s Lacrosse team defeated Anne Arundel Community College in the Region XX Tournament Championship game by a final score of 12-7 at CCBC Essex. With the victory, the Knights, 13-3 and ranked #2 in the most recent NJCAA Poll, advanced to the NJCAA Men’s Lacrosse National Tournament to be contested May 9-10 at Herkimer County Community College in Herkimer, New York.

CCBC Essex student athletes, Michael Colonell of Glen Arm, Md. and Lancaster, Pa. native David Stock of Rosedale, Md., were named the Tournament’s Offensive and Defensive Most Valuable Players, respectively. Additionally, Chase Duquette of Perry Hall, Md., who hails from Huntington Beach, California; Tyler Powell of Pasadena, Md., Nicholas Rossi of Lutherville, Md., Long Beach, New York’s Brock Weisenberg of Rosedale, Md. and Brian Zink of Parkton, Md. were named to the NJCAA Region XX Men’s Lacrosse Tournament All-Tournament Team.

CCBC Catonsville Women’s Lacrosse
CCBC Catonsville Women’s Lacrosse team won the 2009 District B/Region XX Women’s Lacrosse Tournament at Harford Community College on Sunday, May 3. After defeating #4 seed Howard Community College, 27-8, in semi-final action on Saturday, May 2; the team defeated #2 seed Nassau Community College by a score of 14-7 in Sunday’s championship game.

Kelly Viens of Crownsville, Md. was selected as Defensive MVP of the Tournament and Kyle Evans of Woodbine, Md. was named Offensive MVP of the tournament. Danielle Callahan of Hanover, Md., Kara Cashen of Reisterstown, Md., Emily Reese of Baltimore, Md. and Janet Snell of Catonsville, Md. were named to the All-Tournament team.

The Lady Cardinals advance to the 2009 NJCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship on Saturday and Sunday, May 9-10, at Herkimer County Community College in Herkimer, New York. The team faces the Onondaga Community College, the District C participant (Region 3 and 21 runner-up) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009.
