SEPTEMBER EVENTS AT CCBC


BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (August 15, 2014) – As CCBC credit classes resume (Wednesday, Aug. 27) and Continuing Education classes continue, the Community College of Baltimore County offers a full schedule of academic and performing arts events for September.

September 5
CCBC Essex Music Forum: GALEN
12:20 p.m., Recital Hall, Arts and Humanities Hall, CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd.

Galen, flutist and lecturer, has performed internationally for over 30 years and he has appeared and recorded with some of the world's greatest recording artists, including Billy Taylor, Sonny Phillips, Jimmy Heath, Clifford Adams, Curtis Boyd, Melba Moore, Freda Payne and Sun Ra. Galan will be joined in his program, “Notes at Noon,” by pianist Mark Meadows and bassist Max Murray.
Free and open to the public. No tickets required.

Children’s Playhouse of Maryland: 8TH ANNUAL FUNDRAISING GALA

September 12
CCBC Essex Music Forum: O’ER THE RAMPARTS
12:20 p.m., Recital Hall, Arts and Humanities Hall, CCBC ESSEX, 7201 Rossville Blvd.

This Music Forum offers excerpts from the CCBC original historical pageant – O’er the Ramparts –as well as insights into its creation by the authors. O’er the Ramparts is an original musical theater work written by CCBC Director of Performing Arts, Anne Lefter, and composed by CCBC School of Liberal Arts Dean, William Watson. It commemorates the 200th anniversary of the 1814 Battle of Baltimore (during the War of 1812) and the writing of Francis Scott Key’s famous poem, The Star Spangled Banner.

Performing Arts at CCBC: O’ER THE RAMPARTS: A World Premiere of an original historical musical pageant

John E. Ravekes Theatre*, College Community Center, CCBC DUNDALK, 7200 Sollers Point Road
Celebrate the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 with CCBC's original historical pageant and music -- O'er the Ramparts. The pageant focuses on the Battle of North Point and the heroism of ordinary Marylanders in the face of a British invasion. An original production, the book is written and directed by Dr. Anne Lefter, director of Performing Arts at CCBC, with music and lyrics by Dr. William Watson, professor of Music and dean of the School of Liberal Arts. The Baltimore Symphonic Band, conducted by Dr. Chris Wolfe, emeritus professor of Music at CCBC and member of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, will provide live music for O’er the Ramparts. CCBC is delighted to sponsor this event as a gift to the community and is underwriting its production. Painting credit - Edward Percy Moran for his painting “By Dawn’s Early Light.”

Hello, Dolly! is an endearing musical about a “matchmaker” who finds her own match! A musical with lyrics and music by Jerry Herman and a book by Michael Stewart, based on Thornton Wilder's 1938 farce The Merchant of Yonkers, which Wilder revised and retitled The Matchmaker in 1955. The musical went on to become an all-time favorite with three Broadway revivals and a motion picture by the same name.

The Three Piano Players [Duke Thompson, Chris Sengstacke and CCBC music faculty member, Andrew Lewis] will present a diverse and fascinating program of music for a single piano in solo, duo and trio performances spanning classical to jazz. All three represent the Maryland Conservatory of Music.
All performances are free and open to the public. No tickets required.

September 26
CCBC Essex Music Forum: VOCAL WORKSHOP - LEARNING ITALIAN

12:20 p.m., College Community Center Second Level, CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd.
CCBC voice students (as well as other CCBC students and community members) are invited to participate in a workshop highlighting the study of beginning Italian pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary. This session will also include a brief introduction to the usage of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) in learning and studying Italian art song and arias.
Free and open to the public. No tickets required.

September 27
CCBC Alumni Association Crab Feast
7-11 P.M., Martin’s East, 9000 Pulaski Highway, Baltimore, MD 21220

Join us for the CCBC Alumni Association’s All-You-Can-Eat Crab Feast while you help us raise funds for student scholarships and programs!! Buffet includes Crabs, cold salads, hot dogs, salad bar, bakery and dessert items as well as ice cold beer on tap. Enjoy raffles, games of chance and DJ Dangerous Donny as well as a silent auction.
