The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) serves as a focal point for faculty professional development. The Center does this by offering individual workshops, courses of study, programs, consultations, coaching and mentoring programs, as well as other activities to assist faculty and staff. In addition, it provides forums for faculty to explore and reflect on their teaching and learning in an atmosphere of support and teamwork. CETL is available for all faculty members -- full-time and adjunct faculty members teaching credit and/or continuing education courses. The CETL web page contains information about workshops and events, as well as other pieces of information. If you are interested in offering a workshop for your colleagues through the CETL, please use the contact information below.

These seminars have adapted materials created by Thomas Angelo and Pat Cross. These sessions and adapted materials are to allow instructors to gain immediate feedback about the learning that occurs in their classrooms. In addition, these seminars allow faculty members to share effective ideas about learning and teaching. Finally, these seminars introduce participants to other types of assessment that they may want to pursue.

Annually in August, the Developmental Education Advisory Committee plans a day-long symposium in which faculty and staff from each campus can present to each other the new pedagogies and innovations being used in CCBC's developmental offerings. Major presentations related to Reading, Writing, and Math are held as well as more general sessions that may be of interest to all. Major outside speakers are often featured. See the what's new section for details of this year's program.

These communities pair or cluster specific courses to provide students with enriched learning. Students gain a cross-curricular view of subjects, as they simultaneously study related courses. The books and assignments are coordinated, and the individuals involved in teaching these communities attempt to give the students a sense of connection to the course materials and to each other.
A master learner is a member of the faculty or counseling staff who attends all sessions of a class and assumes the role of a model student. Each week, the master learner facilitates a required seminar during which the other students in the class discuss such topics as effective note taking, preparing for examinations, and completing papers and other home assignments successfully.
